“BELLY?”

Belly had come down the stairs in a rush and in an attempt to get away from the crowded foyer she had turned to enter the kitchen but instead ran straight into a lean figure.

Theo’s arms stretched out in an attempt to keep Belly standing straight, the girl’s face illuminated by the bright lights in the house, tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Hey, hey. Is everything okay?” Theo asked, and Belly shook her head, attempting to wipe away the tears, neither of them realizing that Theo was still holding Belly’s arms and as he spoke, he moved them to a quieter corner of the house.

“Steven and uh- Taylor and- upstairs.” Belly was stumbling over her words, however Theo kept nodding, trying to calm her down.

“Okay, okay, come on.”

“I just- I can’t deal with that right now.”

Theo led them away from the kitchen and into a hallway, with a small wooden bench set away from the crowd.

“It's okay. Let’s just sit down.”

“No no, it's- do you know where Cam is?” Belly, finally looked up at him, and was surprised at the clear worry that swirled around his usually cold eyes.

“Outside, with the guys, and Rory.” He gestured towards the foyer and the door, Belly nodded to herself before she sat on the bench.

She pushed her hair back, taking off the flower crown and setting it down in her lap carefully.

Theo leaned on the wall opposite the bench, putting some space between the two, but continued to watch the Conklin girl.

“Do you need anything?” He asked after a few seconds, and she looked up from where she had her gaze fixed to the floor, a little startled.

She hadn’t expected him to still be standing there. She shook her head and he nodded, stuffing his hands into his jacket.

Belly leaned against the wall behind her, taking deep breaths.

“You don’t have to stay, I’m okay.” Her voice was clearer now, her heart had stopped racing and her anger had simmered into betrayal and annoyance towards her brother and best friend.

Theo only shrugged in response, before he stood straight.

“I’m gonna head back out.” He said, and Belly nodded, “See you out there?”

“Oh? Yeah, yes.”

Theo turned and walked away, willing himself to keep looking ahead. Belly waited for him to turn back, to send her a small glance, a worried frown, anything.

A few seconds after he disappeared past the corner, her shoulders deflated and she fell back against the wall, running her hands down her face.

Theo had stopped at the entrance of the hallway, the corner wall hiding his figure from Belly, turning around to walk back over to her but he was unsure of what he would say.
