Yunji was backstage, standing beside the large velvet-red curtains of the theatre stage. She could hear the whispers from the massive crowd, all anticipating the next act to come following a short intermission break.

The girl inhaled and exhaled carefully. The group performance had gone perfectly. Yunji, having taken center stage with Linkai, had stolen the show with their near-flawless partner dance. Of course, following the performance, she was quick to shake him off with the excuse of preparing for her solo.

But the group dance had also given her a great opportunity- to scout the crowd. Indeed, several famous individuals, including the likes of the head of the best ballet-specialized higher institution in South Korea, the director of the national ballet, and even some exquisite-looking white people who very well may have been representative of world-renowned ballets, were present. Yunji knew that performing her best in front of all of these people would be career-starting.

However, there was someone else in the crowd too. Park Jisung. She'd spotted him sitting in the front row, right alongside the head teacher of the modern dance department. A distinguished location reserved for the top students. Although the modern dance department hadn't been included in the concert's agenda, it seemed that Jisung was still being promoted by the school regardless.

She'd spotted the concentration with which he was watching her, as well as the seemingly proud expression on his face as her group routine ended. His eyes were earnest, as unusual as it sounded. But Yunji had too much at stake to worry her mind with some boy.

Her stress-management techniques were seemingly working. Breathing exercises, plenty of hot liquids, and most importantly, her strong perception of her skills, all got her through the one-or-so hour that she'd spent getting her hair and makeup done. She was so calm, that Minji had perceived her utter silence and concentration as a panic attack.

"Yunji? Don't freak out, you're going to do amazing." Minji whispered, and Yunji shot her back a confident smile.

"I'm not nervous. I'm just revising the dance in my head."

"Do you want some more tea?"

"No thanks, I'm going on soon." Yunji's smile persevered.

"Okay, you got this, okay? Fighting!" Minji raised her fist with a stern expression, and Yunji returned the gesture.

As her friend walked away, Yunji was approached by the backstage manager.

"All right, you're on in 2. Remember everything carefully from the rehearsal. Don't trip when you walk on in the dark." The short girl explained quietly, and Yunji nodded. "Good luck out there, I'm sure you'll be amazing!"

"Thank you." Yunji smiled lightly.

The two minutes passed quicker than she would've liked, and the current act soon concluded, receiving loud clapping and cheering from the onlookers. Yunji exhaled deeply and shook off the stiffness in her body. Looking back, she spotted the manager's cue, and the lights went dark. As the three tap dancers exited the stage and passed her by, Yunji took one last shaky breath before venturing out into the stage in pure darkness. She assumed her starting position, her hands gracefully extended, and her feet crossed with her body slouched forward.
