Dinner had gone as usual. Yunji had forgotten how good her mother's cooking was, and had devoured the multitude of good dishes. She and her mom then spent several hours talking about everything- Yunji spoke of her term at school, and Eunha enthusiased about the kind family that had moved in next door. In the short time since the Parks arrived, she and Minjeong had become good friends. Yunji was, of course, very happy for her. However, she couldn't deny the uncomfortable feeling accompanying the revelation that Jisung had now become her neighbour.
Yunji had never really talked about Jisung to her mom, as there was never a need to. All her rants regarding the boy had always been received by Sumi and Dahae instead. So when Eunha asked about him, Yunji just passively said that they'd never been close. It wasn't a false statement, and she didn't really have a desire to let her mom know that there was someone she didn't get along with.
As night fell, Yunji finally made her way up her room. Abandoning her crutch on the wall beside her door, the girl took in the sight of the bedroom. She'd inhabited it since childhood, and hadn't really been bothered to change it up over the years. Posters of idol boy bands she used to love still hung on the wall above her bed, and folders upon folders of some of her old drawings laid untouched on her massive bookshelf. Most nostalgically, a doodle of a small girl in a tutu still stood proudly on the wall in a corner which used to be her play area.
Yunji eyed the suitcase and backpack that she'd left in the middle of the room. After a short debate, she decided she was far too tired to deal unpacking. Thus, she headed straight in the direction of her bed.
Her bedroom was on the second floor of the house, which intercepted with the triangular roof. As such, the big window that illuminated the space was also of the same shape. The semi-transparent white curtains were open, allowing her a peak outside.
The neighbouring house had stood empty for a very long time, and thus, she'd never felt as though her privacy was violated by the identical window just opposite hers. Actually, over the years, she'd set up quite a comfortable hangout spot on the massive windowstill, completed with pillows and soft blanket that accomodated her whenever she sat there and read. However, she was surprised to find out that a weak yellow light now emerged from the room across hers.
Curiosity taking over, Yunji stepped closer, knowing that her presence was largely masked by the fact that she'd kept her lights off. She couldn't help but peek into the opposing window, where the curtains were also open.
At first, it seemed empty. All that greeted her was the sight of a distant wooden door, similar to her own bedroom's entryway. However, her view of it was quickly intercepted by a figure.
Yunji's eyes widened slightly. She knew that figure all too well.
Jisung wasn't facing the window, and instead was positioned sideways, his sharp side profile on full display. He seemed to be pondering something for a slim second, and Yunji watched him with curious eyes. It still felt surreal, and almost nightmare-like that Jisung had become her neighbour. And things just kept getting worse by the second- he also now had a direct view into her bedroom. She had to reconsider her little reading spot from now on.
