After possibly the longest week of her life, Saturday finally rolled around. Yunji had woken up to an empty dorm, her two friends having already departed to spend the one week holiday with their families who luckily lived in Seoul. Yunji, on the other hand, had to endure a four hour long commute to her hometown. Surprisingly though, she was looking forward to it for once. There was no better place to ponder an apology than on a bus or a train.
The walk to the bus stop felt almost like torture, with Yunji struggling to carry her crutch, a backpack, and small suitcase all at once. Once she arrived, she plopped down onto the seat like an old woman, sighing in relief as her ankle was finally freed from the strain of walking.
Her thoughts were quick to wander, aided by the sweet melodies she had playing in her headphones. No more bouquets had arrived during the week, which somehow made her feel sad. She found herself looking forward to the sweet scent of the flowers, but mostly she loved the little cards that came with them. And although in the previous days she would've sworn that the bouquets were nothing but an inconvenience, she had grown attached to them.
Regardless, the small emptiness in her heart was subtled by her strong desire to return home. All she wanted after these past stressful weeks was a warm home-made meal, and the loving hug of her mother.
As Yunji sat at the bus stop, fiddling with her fingers out of boredom, the sun that lit up her face was suddenly obstructed by something. She glanced up, met with a well-built, tall and broad back. It was no mistaking as to who that one-of-a-kind figure belonged to.
Her breaths hastened, fingernails now digging into the soft flesh of her palms. All of a sudden, all the thoughts and words she'd wanted to say were nowhere to be found. She felt as dumb-founded as ever.
Yet Jisung didn't make silence difficult for her. He remained still, not turning his head even once. It was for good reason. They didn't exactly part on the best terms.
Yet it somehow felt suffocating to see him and to be plagued by thoughts of her apologies towards him on the one day when she just wanted to feel relief.
A couple of minutes passed, and the bus finally turned the far corner and approached at a steady speed. Yunji stood up in anticipation, clumsily grabbing at all her things. She marched forward, head tilting slightly to look to her side, but Jisung had already stepped farther away, right where the bus door opened up. With even greater struggle, Yunji boarded after him, the bus driver sending her a pitying look as she walked past him and towards the nearest seat.
The bus ride was quiet. With few of the seats occupied, and passangers seldom boarding and leaving, Yunji was allowed the luxury of drifting off into her own, imaginary world.
Well, for a good 15 minutes-or-so. The disembarkment of the bus was as tough as boarding, and by the time Yunji managed her way onto the train platform, she was scowling with discomfort. Carrying around all that extra weight certainly required her to put more pressure on her injured foot, which felt unpleasant at best.
