"Soooo, you don't want to do the contest?"
Yunji groaned, falling back onto her bed. "It's not that I don't want to. I'm just still considering it."
"I, for one, think it's a good opportunity." Sumi retorted, her face thoughtful. "It's a good addition to your portfolio, and you get to score brownie points with the school. That's gotta count for something."
"I also think it's nice to expand your horizons beyond ballet." Dahae mirrored her sentiment, and Yunji shook her head.
"That's the thing- I don't know if I want to do anything outside of ballet."
"Well, it's all up to you. But if it were me, I'd do it." Sumi added on. "You're great at ballet already, Ji. Also, versatility is highly valued at any dance institution, even ballets."
"That's also true." Sumi hummed in agreement and Yunji shut her eyes in thought.
Yes, this was probably a great opportunity. But she was fearful of losing her position as head dancer if she were to slack off with ballet practice. Moreover, being on TV was still somewhat scary for her. All of her achievements, but most importantly all her failures, would be televised for the whole nation to see. What if she couldn't deliver? What if whatever Miss Lee saw in her wasn't actually there?
And most importantly- how would Jisung feel if Yunji couldn't perform her best?
All these questions boggled her mind. Months ago, this wouldn't have been the case. Yunji had always been confident in her skills. However, this competition wasn't aligned with her expertise, and due to her previous accident, her sense of self-worth diminished. She wasn't sure whether she was ready for such a big responsibility.
Sensing her tension, Sumi leaned forward to slap her hand onto Yunji's thigh. "Hey. If you don't want to do it, you don't have to. I'm sure the teachers have some backup in mind. And, in the end, this is all your choice."
"I-" Yunji began, but the chime of her phone distracted her. She turned her head to where the device lay on the sheets beside her, the screen bright with a single notification.
The girl got up into a sitting position once again and grabbed the phone, expecting to see a message from her mother or Annie. However, what greeted her was a text from an unknown number.
Yunji frowned as she unlocked her phone.
