Hyper The sound of the school bell ringed through the hallways of Fantasy-High. It was the last of the day. Students rushed out of their classrooms, happy that again, the schoolday had come to an end. Within the mass of moving students walked a cottonee girl, avoiding to get bumped over by any over excited peers. She also felt happy. Not necessarily because classes were done for today, but because now she had finally time to go to her favorite place in this school. The library. She went by her locker to pick everything out of it, and put it in her bag. Then she made her way to library. She was planning on looking for a new book. A fantasy novel to be more exact. She had recently joined the DnD club and needed a little more inspiration for the finalisation of her character. She made her way through the crowded hallway and arrived at her destination.
Syforce A mawile boy walked out of his classroom, books in hand as he headed for his locker. He was internally summarizing his lessons, recalling important details. When he reached his locker, he put away his text books and took out a notebook. One that he specifically had started using for the DnD club. He had used it to write things he needed to know as well as some potential ideas. He started to head to library to channel his thoughts, and to find a book that could point him in the right direction. Along the way, he wondered how to craft his character, wondering if he should follow an archetype or break boundaries. He eventually reached the library himself.
Hyper Mellany had claimed a spot, putting her bag beside the chair and placing a notebook and pen on the table infront of it. As she had secured her place to sit, the cottonee then went for the fantasy section of the library. Now what would be a good book to draw inspiration from. With her finger glided over the spines of the books as she browsed through the titels. She was looking for a story centered around water or the ocean. Preferably mermaid, but pirates would do as well. Occasionally she would pick a interesting title and read the back before placing it back on the shelf and continueing her search.
Syforce Kaid looked around a bit for a spot in the library, before finally settling on a spot. He failed to notice that across from it was another chair that had a notebook in front of it. He headed for the fantasy section, hoping find something on magic. It was then he noticed cottonee girl looking through the books. What was she looking for? He decided to at least give a greeting, "Hello there."
Hyper 'hmmm this could work' Mellany thought to herself as she scanned the book she was holding. A main character that was stuck on a small magical island and surrounded by water. She was so busy with the potential of the book that she had never seen anyone enter the library, let alone that person appraoching her. The greeting starteled her, and so she dropped the book on the floor. "O-Oh. Hi." She replied shyly, giving the boy a quick glance, before arching through her knees and picking up her book. How embarrassing.
Syforce Kaid got slightly startled by the book dropping, before seeing the girl glance away for some reason. She seemed like the shy type. "Are you okay?" he asked, slightly concerned about the girl, "Hope I didn't startle you."
Hyper She got up once she got the book. She didn't really dare to look this person in the eyes yet so she just tilted her head up slightly. Kinda looking at his lower face. "I-I'm fine. it's no big deal. I'm sorry, I get startled really easily." She explained with the book pressed to her chest behind crossed arms. Her eyes darted from the floor to his lower face occasionally.
Syforce Her lack of eye contact didn't go unnoticed by Kaid. Yeah, this person is definitely the shy type. He wondered if his appearance was part of it as well. He had been called scary before, despite attempts to avert this issue. He then noticed the book she was holding, although he couldn't quite make out what it was about due to her arms being in the way. Maybe he could use that as a subject."Nice book you got there. What's it about?" he asked in a curious tone.
Hyper "O-Oh.. hmm... Not to sure myself. I only read the back. But it seemed quite interresting. It's about a boy who gets stuck on a magical island." The aversion of eyecontact remained. But the fact that he showed interest in the book, did make her wonder if this person might be a fan of books as well. But it also made her think "O-Oh I'm sorry! Did you want this? I-I can read it another time ,if you want it." Her head shot up. Accually looking right at his face this time, if only for a split second, before lowering her face again and holding the book out to the Mawile.
Syforce He flinched again, this time due to being offered the book out of nowhere. "W-wait, no, I just wanted to know what is about," he said as he raised his hands in front of him, "a-and anyway, I was looking for a different book anyway. So that one is yours for today."
Hyper "Oh. O-Oke then." She said as she placed the book back to her chest. Yeah, social interaction wasn't really Mellany's strong suit. But she did feel like she needed to make a attempt to try and show some interest as well. "What... exactly are you looking for?"
Syforce "Oh nothing much, just some book on magic, like the arcane variety," Kaid answered, before realizing something, "Oh yeah, I should introduce myself. The name is Kaiden Kurokishi, but you can call me Kaid if you want to."
Hyper Mellany remembered passing something like that just a minute ago. Without saying anything she turned around and again brushed with her finger over the book spines. After a bit she found it. She faced towards Kaiden, but in the same way as she did before and held the book out to him. "Here. Maybe this is something you'd like." After handing him the book, Mellany started to walk away, heading for the table she had placed her stuff at. But then she remembered. She turned around, raising her amber eyes to accually look at the Mawile for the first time. "My name is Mellany. " And threw a shy small after it before turning back around and head for her spot by the table.
Syforce "Oh thank you," Kaid replied as he looked at the book. It talked much about the many kinds of magic, as well as many styles to it. He looked up to hear her say her name and walked off. Mellany, huh? That sounded like a nice name. He slightly regretted not being able to talk to her more. He head back to his spot, and took a seat, about to open up his new find.
Hyper The cottonee settled in the place she had claimed. She opened the book she had found next to her notebook and held a pen ready in her hand. It almost seemed like she was going to study for a test or something. She quickly read through the pages. The beginning was not what she needed and so she continued untill she found what she was looking for. Which were the personality traits of the main character and the way they interact with the water and the fish. In the main time, someone was taking place right in front of her. Mellany did notice this and carefully looked up from her book to see that is was Kaiden. Would he have taken that place on purpose? He did take the book that she had recommended to him with him. She continued her own 'work' untill he had read a couple of pages before asking: "W-Was it what you were looking for?"
Syforce Kaid looked through the pages of the book. It started with the basic stuff, from hand signs to magic circles. He skimmed through it, knowing a lot of this already from reading other fantasy novels. He stopped when noticed a section talking heavily about certain kinds of magic, such as weapon enchantment. Now this is interesting. He opened his notebook and started writing some stuff down. It was then he heard someone's question, and looked up to see Mellany sitting across from him. When was she there, and how long was she sitting there? "Oh yeah, it was definitely what I was looking for. Thank you for recommending this. "
Hyper Mellany felt reliefed that the book she had recommanded was something he liked. She gave a small smile "Y-yes. No problem." and then went back to reading her own. The story was accually really interesting, but she must not forget why she was reading it. She focused on the character and how he was acting, noting the traits in her notebook. As she was writting she looked back across the table and started to wonder something. She didn't want to be rude, but her curiousity was too strong to ignore. "Why are you reading about magic? Do you... like fantasy novels as well?" she said quietly without lifting her head from the book. Not because she didn't want to stop reading, but because she didn't dare to look at him. What if he now thought she was some kind of fantasy weirdo?! or a book nerd?! Well... she is a book nerd, but still! Her face took a embarressed shade, but most likely it would remain unseen because of the unlifted head.
Syforce Kaid looked up when he heard the questions. He scratched the horn behind his head, wondering how he should answer. "Well, how do I put this?" he began answering, "I'm doing research for a character I am creating for a club. The DnD club specifically. And yeah, fantasy novels are some of my favorites."
Hyper The embarresment slowly faded as she heared his reply. The DnD club..? She slowly lifted her gaze from the paper and looked at Kaiden. "Y-you're in the DnD club?" A small pauze followed before a smile grew on the cottonee's face "So am I. And I like fantasy books too!"
Syforce Kaid looked a little surprised by her answer. She was also in the club. Small world. "Well, that's certainly a coincidence. The club must have more members than I expected. Out of curiosity, what kind of character do you have, or at least planned?"
Hyper It certainly was a coincidence, but a good one. She was glad she got to talk with a member of the club before the first meeting she would attent to. Maybe that way she would feel less nervous about going at all. "I have a mermaid character based of the pokemon Finneon. She is super cute and super pretty~" She explained full excitment. "I had all kinds of personalities in mind, but I didn't know which one would fit. So I came here to see if I could find some inspiration." The increased speed of speach clearly indicated that she liked what she was talking about. Not necessarily the DnD club itself, but her character and the fact that this mawile was also working on one, made the little cottonee a little more relaxed.
Syforce Kaid noticed the change demeanor. Looks like he was starting to get through to her. "Ah, I see. A mermaid is a pretty interesting choice. I have an Altaria based character that is both a swordsman and a spellcaster. However, I had trouble deciding what kind of magic she could use, so here I am."
Hyper A compliment on her character choice? Mellany shyly blushed and gave a grateful smile, but averted her eyes before returning them back on Kaiden. "A altaria? They are very pretty too~ Your character sounds like she would be very cool." Mellany said with admiration. "Altaria's are bird pokemon... perhaps she uses based air magic?" She gasped as another idea popped in mind "Oh! Or maybe magic shaped like feathers!" She could already imagine it. So cool~
Syforce "Feather shaped magic? That is certainly a good idea," Kaid quickly wrote down the detail onto his notebook. "Themed magic will definitely fit well. What sort of abilities does your character have?" Maybe he could suggest something back...
Hyper "Oh, she can manipulate water with her magic staff. She can make shields or send out a wave to slow or knock away foes. She is a mermaid, and mermaid have healing abilities. And also a magical voice~ when she sings, every person of the opposite gender who hears it, is drawn towards her" Mellany explained enthusiastically. She did her research on mermaids and sirens and this seemed like a fitting kit. She was accually pretty proud.
Syforce "I see, a lot of water based abilities," Kaid put his hand under his chin, " But if they're a mermaid, that would mean she would always be in the water... Maybe she can use her abilities to have a sphere water she could use to travel over land?" Kaid really enjoyed brainstorming ideas, and enjoyed even more acting on those ideas.
Hyper Mellany widend her eyes. She never even thought about Odelette going on land. How would that even work? A water sphere was the perfect solution! "That's a great idea! Thanks alot~" She flashed a quick smile his way before writting it down in her notebook. Her legs swung back and forth as she was happily writting. This was pretty fun. If this was how the DnD club is going to be, Mellany was getting pretty excited. She was a quite nervous for the first meeting soon. But now with this experiance, the cottonee was more at ease.
Syforce "Hehe, no problem," Kaid responded. He was glad that he managed to get an idea across. He resumed looking through his book, finding a bit more on the subject. He then found something interesting. "Hmm, spellblades.... that might fit well with what I got in mind," he said to himself, before looking to Mellany, "So tell me, how did you get involved in the DnD club?"
Hyper After writting, Mellany continued reading untill she heared Kaiden again. She looked at him as she replied "Oh. One of my friends used to play DnD with his family and he convinced me that it would be a fun club to join." She smiled as she thought of Steven. She remembered how he dragged her through the hallways full excitement to sign them both up for the club. "How about you?"
Syforce "Oh, me? Well, I just reading a lot, fantasy especially," Kaid started to say as he rubbed his head horn, "I also heard a lot about DnD, and figured I want to try it out you know. Besides, fantasy genres are one of my favorites." He looked a little awkward, wondering if his answer was sufficient, "Sorry if my reason isn't that interesting. I'm just... a big book nerd."
Hyper The rubbing behind his head, indicated to Mellany that the mawile was abit nervous telling her this information. She could understand. It was something personal to share hobbies and not everyone is open-minded about things like DnD. She also felt nervous too to tell anyone she joined a club like that. This made Kaiden relateable to her and thus she became more comfortable around him. Especially when he mentioned he liked reading books, like her. She smiled friendly at Kaiden "Don't worry about that." Then she leaned over the table and held her hand beside her face, as she was about to whisper something. She waited for Kaiden to lean in a bit and then whispered "So am I"
Syforce Kaid, after leaning in and hearing what she said, his widened a bit. "Oh... you too...? okay," he said softly and slightly stuttering. Another book worm huh? This is a bit of a surprise. He was actually hoping to run into more people that had similar hobbies to him. This made him quite happy to have met someone like her so soon. He looked at Mellany, smiling softly at her, " You wanna, like, hang out one day if we both have time? I came across this bookstore in town I browsed that is said to have a lot of novels."
Hyper "A bookstore! I'd love to go!" Mellany exclaimed full excitment. But it was a bit too loud since the librarian hissed at her and gestured her to be more quiet. A little embarrassed, Mellany blushed and lowered her head slightly before looking back a Kaid and smiled "I-I mean... That sounds like a good idea :sweat_smile: "
Syforce "Okay, cool cool," Kaid nodded. He briefly wondered if he just asked a girl on a date. He shook his head and looked at his notebook. "A-anyway, let's continue with our ideas for character?" he hastily suggested.
Hyper Mellany nodded with a smile before returning to her book and notes. Time for some more character development.
A bit of Time passed before mellany took a glance at the clock. "Oh. I should probably Head Home before my dad gets worried." She took her Notebook and book and put them in het bagpack. She stood up and smiled at Kaid, not realizing that she forgot her pens on the table. "It was Nice meeting you Kaid. If we Run into eachother again, we should defenatly go to that bookstore" she waved at Kaid and then turned to Walk away to head Home.
Syforce "Alright, see you later then, " Kaid waved back as he watched her exit the library. He then took a look at his book again before looking up. He immediately noticed the pens, and realized she had forgotten them. He quickly put his things into his backpack, took the pens, and started running in the direction that Mellany left.
Hyper As Mellany was walking and lightly humming through the hallways of the nearly empty school, she noticed at a sudden moment that her shoe lace was loose. She crouched down to get to her shoe and started to tie it again. Then she felt a pain in the side of her body as someone crashed into her. Mellany rolled over the floor from the impact, keeping her eyes shut untill she came to a stop.
Syforce The Mawile boy kept running in the hallways, trying to catch up to Mellany. He wondered if he took a wrong direction somewhere, before catching sight of her down the hallway. "Hey! Mellany, you...!" before he could say anything more, he stepped on something that caused him to lose his footing. He stumbled uncontrollably, before running into a crouching Mellany and tripping over, doing an impromptu front flip and landing on his horn between his back and the floor.
"Oww..." he grumbled, rubbing his head with his free hand.
Hyper "hnnn..." Mellany groaned as she laid her hands on her side. It hurt. The cottonee opened her eyes and saw a Kaid, laying on his back. Well kinda. On the black thing attached to his head? She was not sure what it was, but he kinda looked like a turtle on his back. Slightly funny. Mellany remained on the floor, waiting for the pain in her side to lessen. She did manage to sit up instead of laying on the ground, but it was with some whining. "K-Kaid, are you alright?!" She asked worried.
Syforce "I'm fine... Steel Type here ..." he responded, getting up. His horn head opened a bit a few times before staying closed. He turned around, still holding Mellany's pens. "Sorry about that, you okay," he said, scratching his head, "I was trying to catch up to you cause you left these in the library." He held them out to her.
Hyper Seeing his horn head move, was a little weird to Mellany. I mean... not everybody had a second mouth on the back of their heads. She shook her head a little to focus on Kaid again, who was holding out her pens to her. Did he run after her to return them? Mellany reached her hand out and took the pens from his hand. "That's very kind of you... Thanks" She said as she shyly looked at her pens.
Syforce "Yeah, no problem," he said as he got up onto his feet. He dusted himself a bit. He then held a hand out to the Cottonee girl. "Need a hand getting up?" he asked politely.
Hyper Mellany put her pens away, twisting her body to the side to get to her bagpack. It still hurt a little, but not as much as it did before. As she turned back and was about to get up, she saw the mawile reaching out to her again. She looked at him for a brief moment before gently placing her hand in his and accepting his offer to help her up. "Thank you. Again." She softly giggled.
Syforce Kaid grabbed her and lifted her back onto his feet. He rubbed his other hand behind his head, starting to blush lightly. He never had trouble talking to girls before. "Anyway, if you're okay, guess I'll see you next time."
Hyper Mellany nodded "Yes, I'm alright. And Thanks again." She waved her goodbye again and exited the school to return home.
