Chapter 43

I laid in bed looking at the last text I sent Lia and I was so hard that it hurt. I can't come without her again. Giving into it means that I'll accept that she's gone again and I will not. I'll never accept that. I got up and went into the other bedroom, our bedroom. The cleaners regularly cleaned in here kept the sheets clean fixed up any remnants of the last time I lost my mind in here. I laid in the bed and closed my eyes. Her scent even through the clean sheets that surrounded me. It felt like she was here next to me. I grabbed the pillow that smelled like her and held it to me. I breathed in her scent and sighed.

It's been three days and I've become inpatient. Hell I was inpatient on day one. She'd message me whenever she can telling me she's working on it, but I had no clue what was going on. I looked at the glass of alcohol in front of me and my jaw clenched. I was trying to cut back after my last spiral.

"Thinking of relapsing?" I heard and looked up to see a guy with Blonde hair and blue eyes. The same man who took her from me four months ago.

"Ballsy of you to come here" I said to him "Which guard let you in?"

"Oh I snuck in. Seems to me you're not really concerned about personal safety." He said looking around my office

"Been busy. You know looking for the woman you took from me." I said

"Well believe or not, I'm here to help" He said sitting in the chair across from my desk and fixing his suit jacket

"I don't need your help" I said with my jaw clenched

"Oh on the contrary you do. But, I'm not here to help you. I'm here to help Lia."He said and I glared at him

"Didn't seem so when you kidnapped her" I said

"Me and Lia spoke about that. There's no hard feelings." He said

"And I'm supposed to believe you?" I asked pissed

"Yeah if you want to see her again." He said

"Is that a threat?" I asked

"No it's a fact. Months ago I promised Lia to help her get away from him. I didn't realize how sick the bastard was until after I brought her there. She didn't deserve that at all. She's a beautiful person." He said looking at his hands and I grit my teeth in annoyance "Anywho, I had business to take care of that took longer than expected unfortunately and was disgusted to see that you made no efforts to help her after all this time."

"I did. I was so close and then she pushed me away. He threatened her with killing me so she said the one thing to hurt me and make me stop looking." I said feeling like an idiot

"You are an idiot." He said "Both you and Elijah. She wasted her time on you two"

I stood up pulling my gun at my waist. "Say something else" I threatened

"Go ahead kill the only person who can help her." He said looking down the barrel of my gun " I thought about it. I thought about it myself. Killing that nutcase Elijah then you and playing the knight in shining armor. God I'd love to know what she tastes like."

I took my gun off safety. He smirked. "I'm kidding. His place is two hours away from here middle of nowhere. He has about 50 guards throughout the whole property even less at night. He makes her sleep with him, you know."

I dropped my hand holding my gun. My heart froze."What?" I asked lowly

"Oops did I say with? I mean next to him." He smirked and my blood boiled.

"Enough!" I yelled at him sitting in my office chair too weak to stand

"Lighten up. She won't let him. I heard from the guards. He's been trying though for the last four months. But she's been holding out. I personally don't know how long more he'll wait. Guards are saying he's antsy, irritable, and shifty. So Id be weary." Nic said

"If he lays a hand on her I will make sure he loses them." I said

"But you can't do that now can you, which is why I am here to help." He said and I looked at him curiously "No matter how much Lia hates him she won't hurt him. She won't kill him. You think she'll forgive you for killing him. Her first love? Her best friend? I know you hate him and everything that he did which I am to blame too but this is how I make it up to her. We get in there. You get her and I go for the kill."

Was that why she's having me wait? Because she knows that I'll kill him. Is this her way of trying to find a way around me killing him?

"Why are you doing all this? I know you want to help her but why?" I asked

"Because she showed compassion when she didn't have to and reminded me of someone I know. And for the kill, that bastard got me wrapped up in this under false pretenses and I do intend to put a bullet in his skull for it." Nic said and his jaw clenched

"You do know who I am right? That we're supposed to hate each other." I said

"Let's look at it like an alliance." He said "For now."

"For now" I said looking at the glass on my desk "Alliances like these are unheard of especially between the Italian and Russian mafia."

I looked at him and he smirked. "Not when a very special girl is involved."

I looked at him. "If we do this let me get this clear. Lia is mine. I will do anything to protect her including killing you and starting a war. Don't try anything funny and we will have ourselves a deal."

He seemed truly confused. "What does a woman like her see in a complete psychopath like you?" he asked standing up from his chair

"I don't know. I'm still trying to figure that out." I said standing up too

"Get your best men ready to storm the fortress." Nic said smirking

"I gave her a week." I said and he looked at me crazy

"A week for what?" He asked

"I ran into her three days ago in town and she made me promise to wait before doing anything rash." I said

He laughed liked a full blown laugh. "And you're keeping your word?" He asked

I nodded and he shook his head.
"You must really be whipped. You seen her and let her go back then gave her a week with the guy?" He asked

"I trust her. She wants to try to do it her way and I will trust her judgment. In four days if she's not in my arms again, we go there and do it my way." I said and he nodded

"Love is an annoying little thing" he said sighing "Just hope his patience lasts four days. I'll see you then."

He walks out my office and I wonder if I made the right decision.
