^ Lovelyz' Kei (Kim Jiyeon) as Deceit's troublesome apprentice!

...

That same night, another Messenger had something to deal with. But it wasn't a human like all the other situations surrounding him. Instead, his problem was with his apprentice.

Once again, Deceit was looking for Jiyeon, hoping that the grim reaper was actually practicing as he told her to before he left her alone for some time. Though he isn't really expecting much, since she never really seems able to do anything without his guidance.

When Deceit finally found Jiyeon, the latter was sitting on a park bench, alone, and drawing with a stick on the ground that was too hard to write on anyway. And a sigh comes out of him before he finally approaches her.

"What are you doing not practicing as I told you to before I left?" Deceit asks as he stands infront of his apprentice.

Jiyeon's eyes widen upon hearing his voice, and she looks up, blinking for a few seconds, before she wears a nervous smile on her face. One which summons a scowl on the Messenger's face and making her reply with haste. "I-I-I did! B-but... I wasn't doing so well so I just decided to wait until... you... arrived."

Deceit just let out a sigh in response as he looks down at his hopeless apprentice. Well, he never really expected much since she was just 30 years into her term. In fact, he would have just stopped trying to help her at this point if he knew it wouldn't really do much.

But how could he? Not especially when he's always reminded by how desperately his apprentice asked him to teach her personally. For a grim reaper whose term should be a punishment, Jiyeon was rather passionate about becoming a Messenger. That's why she sought out her mentor for help. Even though, with her sweet and pure demeanor, it seems like a difficult job for her to do all this work.

It's been 5 years now since Deceit started assisting her personally, but there was still no progress, and both of them knew it was all starting to get old.

Nevertheless, even if Jiyeon was losing hope, Deceit himself just couldn't bring himself to just drop all the effort they put into trying to get Jiyeon to do better. If only he wasn't such a softie sometimes.

"Did you at least make sure that girl got sent to the afterlife safely after I took care of her stepmother?" Deceit asks after a moment, and Jiyeon looks back at him in surprise.

"Wait, that was her stepmother??"

"Answer my question first, Jiyeon."

Jiyeon smiles gingerly at her mentor's words, and then she went on to answer his question. "Well... I mean, I did guide her to the afterlife..."

"And how did it go?" Deceit asks with his arms now folded and a brow raised.

And Jiyeon laughs nervously before she continues. "I... might have lost her a few times on the way."

"Oh, of course, you did," Deceit comments, looking disappointed but not surprised.

Jiyeon, however, quickly tries to explain as she shakes her palms at him. "W-w-well, it wasn't entirely my fault! There were a lot of souls on the way to the gate that time, and she didn't seem like she wanted to hold hands so I... I..." And then she pauses when she sees that Deceit had raised his brow even more. Slowly, she drops her hands and hangs her head as she mumbles under her breath. "... I'm sorry. I didn't do so well again."

Deceit eventually drops his arms at his sides after his apprentice stops trying to explain herself. Yet another failure, and it makes him frustrated yet again, and wondering how he ended up with such troublesome apprentices.
