Ch. 26: The Curse of The Liar

"Who sent you?"

Jangjun's deep voice resonates from his lips while his staff glowed bright, tip pointed straight at Ko Yunseo who sits on the dusty floor. Her tied hands and feet restrict her movement, but her mouth remains ungagged to give her the freedom to speak. Though, it wouldn't exactly be freedom, considering that they allowed her to speak just to get information out of her.

For some reason, Jangjun's staff doesn't even scare her, and Hyunjin who standa behind him looks on at the young woman with furrowed brows. Just what exactly was she planning to do anyway?

All of a sudden, Yunseo scoffs and spits at the two reapers, sending them stepping back before Jangjun opened his mouth to apprehend her, only to be cut off by Yunseo herself. "You guys are dead once he comes here." She laughs, completely convinced she would be safe. "He's the strongest grim reaper around, you better watch your backs! How dare you do this to me?! And all over that stupid b*tch?!"

Jangjun's eyes glow green as his temper rises, and he swings his staff, ready to end the young woman once and for all. Except, Hyunjin suddenly gets in the way, and Jangjun stops himself in time, eyes widening just as Hyunjin reaches Yunseo and grabs her by her collar.

"What the HELL do you want?!" He yells in her face, his grip tight and his face red. He could have killed her, but something was stopping him. And yet even Hyunjin himself didn't know what exactly. "What the hell did Suyeon ever do to you that you keep making her life miserable?! Just tell me what you want already!!"

"I WANT HER DEAD!"

The words come out of Yunseo, clear and loud, stabbing straight through Hyunjin's chest. The reality of it all struck him too hard that he fell silent, but soon enough, his expression darkens, and his grip loosens, revealing his shaky hands.

This is too much. How dare she wish someone's death so casually like that?

"Grim... You're talking about Grim, aren't you? The gallows-weilder?" Hyunjin asks with a low voice, his eyes dead but glowing now as he stands and looks down at Yunseo.

Yet again, Yunseo remains cocky as she smirks at him. "I knew there was something odd about you, Hwang Hyunjin... But that doesn't matter anymore. You're going to die, anywa–"

"No, you will." Hyunjin cuts her off coldly, fingers curling at his side, threatening to conjure his weapon.

"What?" Yunseo scoffs as she remains confident.

But then Hyunjin returns the gesture to her. "As a deceitful person yourself, it's a wonder how trusting you can be of people like Grim... I hope you find your peace, Ko Yunseo."

It was at that moment that Yunseo's smug expression finally fell, and she furrowed her brows as she noticed a whip appearing in Hyunjin's hand. A second more, and her eyes widen, and behind Hyunjin, Jangjun does the same before he quickly runs towards him.

"Hyunjin, don't!"

"No!" Yunseo shrieked as she raised her tied hands in an attempt to protect herself. In a split-second she heard a snap, but in connection to that... she felt nothing. Not even a single ounce of pain anywhere on her. Furthermore, the place had gone silent, and it took her a moment more to lift her gaze and find that she was now alone, and the rope that had her hands tied had been slashed apart.

She had been spared, for the nth time, much to the mercy of the souls she wished to harm.

"... Is your brother alright?"

Youngtaek barely even notices himself fidgeting as he asked Suyeon. In return, the young lady looks up at him, eyes wide but tired and wary, before she looks away and hangs her head. She forces a smile onto her face eventually, before replying quietly.
