I've moved around a lot. I'm not the kid like, "My dad got a promotion in work so I had to move to the other side of the country and join a new school and leave my old friends behind," I'm more like, "My parents constantly move me around until I'm in the same neighborhood with kids my age because that's how they grew up."
I moved to Kentucky in July of 2022 and lived in a duplex. Our neighbor consisted of an alcoholic named Katherine, her two dogs which she would constantly lose one of them, and her sixteen-year-old son whom I forget the name of because I only met him once and it was brief.
Katherine was your average childhood weirdo. She was old, had raggedy blonde hair, was divorced, clearly a disappointment to society, etc.
She would invite her boyfriend over, get drunk, and they would scream at each other all night. She was a genuinely loud and obnoxious, annoying neighbor. The first day we'd moved in she'd introduced herself and left us alone.
About a month later she knocked on our door and introduced herself again, forgetting she'd already met us and was clearly drunk. It was late at night, about 10 PM and she took us throughout her entire house as if we were meeting for the first time.
When we were upstairs we heard the door open so we all went downstairs to find Katherine's son. He awkwardly introduced himself and darted up the stairs as fast as he could. My mom and Lainee say he was embarrassed but I was embarrassed, too. I didn't have a bra on because it was nighttime and I was lounging in my PJ's because I didn't expect my drunk neighbor to re-introduce herself to me.
So afterward we went back to our house and we had no words.
Remember when I said earlier that she constantly lost one of her dogs? I wasn't lying and it was extremely irritating. She would always lose her dog and text my mom about it asking for help. Whenever she would be looking for him, we'd be minding our own business when out of nowhere we'd hear her screaming, "COPPER!" at the top of her lungs.
There was also another time when she decided we were a loud family. Now, I will admit I have a loud family but the main room was closest to the door so we called it The Quiet Room and spoke in hushed voices when we were in there so we wouldn't be too loud.
Because Katherine was drunk half of the time she didn't have that respect for us and was loud whenever she wanted to be. I was upstairs in my room doing who knows what so I didn't actually hear this happen but it's a lot like Katherine to do and it's interesting so I'm tellin' it.
One time my family was in The Quiet Room talking in a whisper voice, like normal and respectful people do. They were just chilling when out of nowhere they heard a door slam and Katherine banging on our door yelling, "YOU'RE GETTIN' A LITTLE LOUD IN THERE!"
*Agitated sigh* How did I put up with this for almost a year?
And dogs weren't even allowed in the duplex yet she still had two of them. My family had been wanting a dog for a long time and my dad told us that we'd get a dog once we moved out of the old house and my siblings and I were devastated when we learned we couldn't.
So now that I live in my current house we have Leah. Writing this she's twelve weeks and one day old.
Now, I have a bit of a problem. I have a very big obsession with.... Milk. I love milk with all my heart. I drink massive glasses daily and my mom and siblings make fun of me for it but my dad thinks it's funny.
What was also annoying about Katherine is that she would ask us for gallons of milk, we'd give it to her, and then she'd say she didn't need it anymore and give it back to us when it was almost spoiled.
I think you get the idea that this lady sucked to live next to. I'm glad I got to live in Kentucky but I wish I had better neighbors. There was an old lady who lived down the street with her dog who I loved but I'll talk about her in another story.
