09/06/75 (Cont'd)

I saw that there was cops on motorcycles around the bus. They was escorting it. But then I see the bus clear and people when they saw it too went apeshit. Some picked up the 'HELL NO!' chant but others like Bobby and those intruders was shouting 'WHITE POWER! WHITE POWER!' and all around us people started picking up that slogan as the bus got closer.

The bus looked like shit. Honest it was already pretty beat up by the time it got to us. All the windows on the side was wide open with broken glass sticking up. It was so smashed that you could not see nothing inside. Even a couple of the motorcycle cops had windshields cracked but they did not have it nearly as bad as the driver on the bus. 

I felt most bad for the driver. 

I know he gets paid like the cops and everything but i felt most bad for him because I kept thinking he really was just trying to drive. His window was only half there and he was hunched down in his seat and was tense too but more because I do not think he could see out anymore and was trying to make sure he did not hit one of us in the crowd or a cop which would have been really bad for him.

'Where's the niggers!' Bobby shouted and I could see that he had a rock already in his hand.

'On the bus!' says an intruder but Bobby says 'I know I wanna see them!'

'Show us the niggers!' a couple of the Southie intruders says. 'Bring them out here Piggy so we can fucking hang them!'

Then part of the crowd starts chanting KILL THE NIGGERS! Then I see Tim Cassidy slipping through the crowd and he comes running towards the cop line. He is little so when one of the cops made a grab for him he wiggled away and flung a rock at the driver of the bus which actually went through the driver's window but I do not think it hit him. But there was Tim in the middle of the road now and the bus has to stop.

'Niggers eat shit,' Tim was screaming giving the bus the finger.

'You tell them, Timmy!' Bobby was saying but then the cop Tim had gotten away from grabbed Tim by the back of his hair to pull him back to the crowd.

But Tim is like we was when we was his age. He knows how to fight good. So Tim twisted around and kicked the cop hard in the balls.

The cop went down and people started laughing and making fun of the cop and calling him a pussy. I thought it was kind of funny too since Tim is only like 11 and the cop is grown. But the cops did not think it was too funny and then I stopped thinking it was funny because it turned ugly real fast. Because then the head cop shouts out to have Tim arrested. Four or five cops then suddenly broke ranks and football tackled Tim right there in the street right in front of the bus which was sort of stuck now.

I thought that was a stupid thing that they did that because then our side of the street gets all fucking pissed off and then Jim* he sees this happening and jumps into save his brother and tackles on the pile and starts wailing on the back of the cops heads.

A couple more cops then broke from trying to hold the rest of us back to whoop Jim and once they did that then everyone starts going forward.

Then rocks started to fly over my head and I was worried that they was gonna hit me so I did like the bus driver and got down so the rocks missed. Instead they start plunking off the side of the bus and more importantly I saw some bouncing off the motorcycle cops helmets which did not hurt them bad but knocked one off the bike.

Leader cops sees this and starts to get shit scared like more than I was about the button. And he starts screaming 'HOLD THE LINE! HOLD THE LINE!" but now everybody is screaming so loud that none of his guys can hear him. And besides there was no use in holding the line. It was turning bad. There was the main fight in front of the bus with the cops and Tim and Jim and then over a ways a couple people start kicking the shit out of the cops who fell over off the bikes. Then the rest of the cops kind of looked lost so they were swinging their sticks all around trying to hit anything they think was a threat.
