Dr Sweetheart and Dr Gorgeous

It's my first day back at work after my surgery and medical leave. I am so thankful for Bailey letting Arizona have the time off to look after me, I know that isn't normally allowed but Bailey must have known I needed her. 

I woke up before Arizona did so I had a quick shower and got myself ready. I also got Sofia up and dressed because we were dropping her off at school before we headed to work. I was making pancakes as Arizona came down the stairs. She was wearing a black shirt with some green trousers. 

"Ooh those smell nice" she says as she walks over to the kitchen counter. She pours herself a cup of coffee and sits down next to me at the table. As I finish packing Sofia's lunch, Sofia joins us at the breakfast table. As a family we enjoy our breakfast before heading to the car. Arizona drove us towards Sofia's school. "I can walk in on my own, don't worry!" Sofia says confidently. 

Arizona and I both exchange looks as we aren't sure. Sofia notices our looks. "Zola is stood over there, let me go please?" She whines. "Fine, have a good day at school sweetie, remember you're getting the bus to the hospital tonight!" Arizona says as Sofia gets her bag and gets out the car. "I know mom, don't worry. Bye y/n!" Sofia says. 

I giggle, "Why you laughing! I didn't get a goodbye!" Arizona says in a grump. "You're so cute when you're grumpy." I reply. 

As Arizona drives towards the hospital we listen to some music. We get to the hospital and April and Jo are waiting for us. "SHE'S BACK!!!!!" April says running towards me! "Honestly, it's been so boring without you two here!" Jo adds. "I'm sure it wasn't that bad." Arizona says. "I mean Amelia on occasion made it less boring but oh you two are just the most fun people around!" Jo continues. "That's because we work in peds, everything is fun!" 

We all head upstairs towards the residency lounge and attendings lounge. I quickly get into my scrubs and find Arizona as we have some consults together. We quickly talk through the consults, two of which were cancer patients and one was a liver transplant. "Okay, so Luca is 5 and is here for a liver transplant. He's been waiting for 2 years and theres a liver in Boston. Teddy has flown out to get it so we need to prep Luca for surgery so he's ready when the liver arrives." Arizona says. 

We walk into the patients room and explain the process to the parents and Luca so they know the possible risks and outcomes of the procedure. Once we've explained Arizona takes Luca down to the OR and I head up to the helipad to greet Teddy and take the liver down to OR 5. 

I stand at the helipad awaiting the helicopter. It's pouring down with rain so I'm in my blue coat trying to keep warm. The helicopter lands and I see Teddy walk towards me. She hands me the box with the liver in and we get the lift down to the OR. Teddy takes the liver into the OR while I scrub in.

*After the surgery*

I talk to Luca's parents once we've brought him back to his room. "So, the procedure went perfectly well, we've got him on anti-rejection IV, we should know within the next 48 hours whether he's rejected the liver or not but we hope for the best." I reassure the parents before going to find Arizona. 

"Dr Wolfe!" Meredith calls as she walks down the corridor. "Dr Grey, how are you?" I respond. "I'm good thank you! It's nice to see you and Dr Robbins back!" She says pulling me into a hug. "Oh well thank you. I have missed working so it's good to be back and we did a transplant this morning so it was a nice welcome." I explain. "Oh back in the OR, thats great! Well, I won't keep you, I'll probably see you later. Zola said her and Sofia were getting the bus here later?" Meredith asks. "Yes, Sofia wanted to do some homework with Zola so we offered up Arizona's office." I reassure. "Oh thats great. Well I'll catch you later!" Meredith hugs me once again and we go our separate ways.
