Y/n's head was starting to hurt from all the sniffling. She hadn't stopped crying since she ran home four hours ago. She picked up her phone for the first time since then, and scrolled mindlessly on it for a couple minutes until she unconsciously ended up on Oikawa's contact page.

His number was still unblocked, yet he hadn't tried to contact her or anything. Y/n didn't think breaking up with a cheater would take this much of a toll on her. She turned off her phone and closed her eyes. It was in her best interest to fall asleep so she wouldn't be stuck thinking about him constantly. However, it was proving difficult to do so— every time she closed her eyes, she would just reminisce about their dates, his touch, his kind words. She opened her eyes again, but they were half-lidded. It was exhausting trying to stay awake.

Knock knock.

"Y/n? Are you home?"

She sat up. "Dad?"

The door creaked open, followed by her father's head peeking in. "Hey buddy. What's wrong?" He walked over, taking a seat on her bed. Y/n took a good look at her dad's face. He was still in his work outfit, and the eye bags on his face were very apparent. She knew he was tired, but he still made the effort to check up on her. Not wanting to be more of a burden, she lied. Hell, he didn't even know about Oikawa, did he?

"I'm fine." She tried a smile but it was weak.

"Don't give me that, listen to how congested you are."

"Maybe I'm just sick."

He brought the back of his hand to her forehead, knuckles slightly brushing against it. "You're not feverish."

Y/n fell back and slumped into her pillow. "See? I'm fine."

"What were you crying about?"

She kept her gaze on the ceiling with no response.

"Relationship problems? Is it Tsukishima?"

At the mention of his name, her heart pounded. But she shook it off. "No... someone else."

"You can tell me."

She took a deep breath, finally moving her eyes from the ceiling to meet with her dad's. He was wearing a sympathetic smile. She began to tell him about Oikawa, and their relationship before she moved in with her dad, and then how she caught him cheating, and that being the whole reason she moved schools, and even after moving away and everything, she still missed him, but they were now broken up, and she wonders if she did the right thing. Throughout the retelling of events, tears were streaming down her face again and her dad had moved closer to hold her in a hug, tears staining his shirt.

"I'm sorry you've been keeping this all to yourself."

She sniffled. "It's not your fault."

He sighed and started to caress her hair. "Listen. You did nothing wrong. You didn't make the wrong decision either. This Oikawa got what was coming for him and he doesn't have a clue in the world what he's lost."

Y/n let out a small laugh. "Okay. I get it."

"I'm proud of you and the girl you've become. You're strong-- don't let this one guy screw you over."

She hummed.

"I would like to be home more often, but my work prevents me from doing so."

"I know. Don't worry about me. I'm strong, aren't I?" She gave him a smile.

"That's my girl." He returned a smile, and after a conversation about her father's work life and the trouble his boss gives him, her mind was no longer on Oikawa. Sleep finally hit her like a truck.

"Kei, what's on your mind?"

"Nothing."

"I don't think it's just nothing. You've barely eaten your cake."

Tsukishima moved his gaze down, looking at the fork in his hand and a barely-touched strawberry shortcake in front of him. He looked at his mother, then set the fork down. "I'm not hungry."

His mom let out a fake laugh. "Yeah, right. Not hungry for strawberry shortcake? That's a new one."

"Whatever. I'm gonna do homework." He stood up then walked to his room, closing the door behind him. He put on his headphones and sat at his desk, picking up the pencil and tried reading whatever stupid, pointless shit was on the assignment. He failed to do so, which was no surprise to him because all that crowded his stupid, pointless mind was what Yamaguchi had told him before. Those words were plaguing his thoughts like a fly that won't stop flying around your ear and buzzing non-stop.

He set down his pencil and leaned back in the chair, head lolling back.

Dating? Oikawa and y/n-- dating?

Wait. If they were dating, why was she going to school here? He remembered their first encounter, and y/n had mentioned she transferred in the middle of the year. Was it from Aoba Johsai? Maybe they broke up...but Yamaguchi said they were hugging.

Ugh, this shit was too confusing and he was getting frustrated over why his thoughts were being consumed over this in the first place. He picked up his phone and opened the chat between y/n and himself.

Come over tomorrow.

He typed and hit send without a second thought, which he found himself regretting within seconds.

Fuck. What was he thinking? His heart pounded in his chest, wanting to get this suspense over with. He wish she'd just reply already with a Hell no and get this over with. However, there was no response for hours. Not even a read receipt. The embarrassment of this whole predicament was slowly killing him.

What had even compelled him to do that?

Nonetheless, when he awoke the next morning and opened his phone, he was shocked to see an "Ok" from y/n. Was he shocked to see no question or concern about his message from the recipient, or simply the fact that she had even agreed to it in the first place? He couldn't figure it out for the life of him. More importantly, he had to get ready and let his family know.

Ding dong!

Tsukishima's heart started to race-- was that her?

The sound of the doorbell ringing was followed by his own mother's voice. He could barely make out what she was saying through his closed bedroom door. "Y/n? My gosh it's been a while! Kei didn't even tell me you were coming!"

Y/n's words were even harder to make out, her voice much quieter. "He didn't tell you? Is it better if I come back another day?"

No.

"No, no! Don't worry, just come inside!"

Their voices died down after he heard the front door close.

Tsukishima checked his phone again, making sure he didn't miss a "I'm coming right now" message. Nope. There was none. He sighed. He hadn't changed, or even brushed his teeth yet. What was she doing here first thing in the morning?

Knock knock knock.

Tsukishima rolled his eyes because he knew his mother was about to pester him. He reached for the doorknob, slowly opening it. "I know y/n's here, just give me a second to ch-

Y/n was standing in front of him, not his mother.
