What .. just happened?

I turn to look at Evie with I presume with mix of horrified and angry face since her eyes widen. She clears her throat and lets out a nervous chuckle.

"What's with the face Sammy?"

She says like she has no idea what she has done now.

Does she has no idea what she did? She just insulted a woman who helped me for no good reason other then that she felt like it.

I shake my head in disbelief and let out a shaky sigh as I wobble into my apartment so that I can sit down somewhere.

"Why did you do that Evie?"

I ask her in a soft voice as I sit down on the couch and look at her. Evie closes the front door behind her and looks at me with confused eyes. She sits down next to me and looks me up and down before her eyes stop at my face.

"Umm what do you mean Sammy? What did I do? Anyway tell me what happened? Who hurt your leg? I was so worried"

She asks and a gut feeling tells me that she is aware of what she did but is trying to change the subject. I shake my head and clear my throat.

"You know exactly what you did Evie .. you insulted her for no apparent reason .. why? I do get that emotionally you are not in a good state but that gives you no right to insult her"

I say in a firm voice or at least try to. I have never been the 'get angry and shout' kind of person. Evie looks at me surprised as I do not back down and she lets out a sigh of defeat as she nods her head.

"I know I know Sammy .. it's just ."

She takes a deep breath and pauses, trying to think of a way to say her thoughts without angering or upsetting me more.

"It's just .. I don't trust cops and when I saw your leg in a cast and everything with my emotions being jumbled .. I just snapped and assumed that she hurt you .. I'm sorry Sammy"

She mumbles in a quiet voice and slumps her shoulders. Her expression and voice seem sincere and I know Evie is not a hostile person at heart. My eyes soften at her sad demeanour and let out a sigh of relief as I realise she didn't actually want to hurt officer Bennett.

Well actually she did want to hurt officer Bennett with her words but wasn't really in the right state of mind .. I guess.

I frown slightly and hug her, laying her head on my chest and patting her comfortingly.

"I know Evie .. you are feeling sad and betrayed by our mom and her words .. but you can't take your anger out on other people. I promise you that officer Bennett didn't hurt me. She actually helped me"

I smile softly as I remember officer Bennett bandaging my leg and telling the paramedic off for being lazy. And how she helped me up to my apartment floor.

"Can you believe that she helped me up from the first floor till here?"

Evie let's out a soft laugh as she hugs me back. Her grip seems weak and her voice comes out but strained.

"Really ? All sixteen floors ? She didn't seem out of breath at all .. unlike you who seemed like a person who just ran a marathon"

Her voice has a bit of tease in it which makes me let out a chuckle and makes my flush out of embarrassment.

Did I really look that exhausted? Damn

I shake my head and pull away from her. I fan my face to calm my blush down and look at her softly.
