<Tris's POV>
I wake up and my whole body aches and my head pounds. My body is weaker than usual. When I open my eyes I see everyone else is awake and alert. Quickly, I stand up and walk to everyone else who are huddled in a tight little group. "Why didn't any of you wake me?" I ask annoyed.
"Your cute when you sleep," Christina says smiling. Lynn rolls her eyes.
"Or because we get along just fine while your asleep," Lynn says. In a desperate effort to change the subject I bring up another topic.
"How's Uriah?"
"Not good at all, his leg refuse to hold his own weight," Tobias says. I think for a second.
"Does that mean we can't keep moving?"
"That means that Four and I will alternate holding the lazy lug," Zeke says pointing to Uriah who is sitting on a pile of giant rocks. Uriah just flips Zeke off.
"Anyways, we are only about ten minutes from the bridge that will take us out of the city and towards supposedly a refuge, so it won't take us long at all, so I suggest we get moving so we will be across before afternoon," Marlene suggests. I nod my head in agreement and everyone else soon follows suit. We pack up the little supplies we have and then Tobias takes Uriah and Shauna keeps Hector close. I walk near Tobias and Uriah as we walk out of the building and in the direction of the bridge. I can see the bridges from where we are, but there is still a long walk.
"What do you think is on the other side?" I ask Tobias.
"Food," Uriah jokes as Tobias supports most of his weight. I roll my eyes.
"I don't know, I guess we'll find out when we get there," Tobias answers.
-------------------------As we near the bridge I see it is extremely high up off the ground and there is a giant flowing river under it. I never knew this even existed until now. By the time we make it to the bridge, Tobias is exhausted and all of our stomachs are making growling noises. Halfway across the bridge I speak. "Maybe we should take a rest and eat a little."
Before even one person can respond I hear shouting and soldiers dressed in black with blue bands on their arms come up from the sides of the bridge, their guns pointed and loaded. I take take my own gun and ready myself as everyone else does the same. The dauntless traitors come running at us and begin shooting.
The echoing sound of shots being fired fills the air along with the scent of gun powder. Four looks for a place to set Uriah down and Shauna looks for Hector in the madness. I shoot back at the traitors and hear a grunt behind me. Zeke holds his shoulder as blood pours out of it. We're clearly out numbered and running out of bullets. I take a knife from my pocket and launch it at one of the blue banded people. The traitor was so close that when his blood splattered it landed on my face and the metallic taste fills my mouth. Another scream comes and I see Christina holding her side as she curses loudly. She doesn't stop shooting though. Desperately, I look for Tobias. I see what's about to happen before it even occurs. He has blood pouring from his leg and he stumbles back with Uriah still in his grasp. I sprint to the two of them, but before I make it to them a shooting pain rushes through my arm, yet I still run to Uriah and Tobias. Tobias throws Uriah away from him as he stumbles back over the edge of the bridge. I shout and fall to the ground at the side of the bridge to grab his hand as he falls. I grunt in effort to pull Tobias up.
"Tris it's okay, you're arm is shot, you can't hold me," Tobias pleads.
"I am not letting you fall! You'll die," I yell.
"I know," he mumbles.
"I love you, don't leave me," I plead.
"I'm sorry, I love you," Tobias says as his grip slips from mine and he plummets dozens of feet down into the rushing river.
"Tobias no!" I yell desperately with tears cascading down my face in long waterfalls. I try to throw myself down to catch him, but someone pulls me up by my waist.
"Tris, he's gone, he's gone." I recognize the voice as Will and quickly turn around to face him quickly before tucking my head in his shoulder, crying my eyes out. Why couldn't I just hold on tighter? I was so weak, and now Tobias is dead because of it.
"He can't be gone, he can't be!" I scream and fall to the ground in a huddle with myself. Zeke looks over the edge and cries for his best friend. He falls to the ground like me and pulls at the roots of his hair desperately with a red face and puffy eyes. Words like no escape his lips over and over as he sobs. I roll onto my stomach and pound the ground angrily. "He's dead God damn it! He's dead!"
I regret everything. I regret letting go. I regret leaving Amity. I regret letting Christina and Will look for Lynn, Marlene, and Hector. I regret choosing Dauntless. I regret leaving Abnegation. Most of all though, I regret ever letting myself fall in love with Tobias Eaton.
All it has done is brought me pain that will last a life time and torture me everyday of my life.
