<Tris's POV>
Hector is dead, our safe house is destroyed along with everyone in it, and worst of all, Erudite is still in control and trying to rid the world of divergents... like me. I do not know how we can make this war end or even if it will ever end. We need a plan, but no one can seem to think of something. The only thing I know for sure is that the faction system needs to be demolished, or at least the destruction of innocents needs to be stopped. I stand up from where I was sleeping. It's been three days since the institute was blown up and all we have done is failed at making plans and mourned the people we have lost. Zeke and Uriah's mother was in there, Hector, and Tori, and just all of these innocent people that did not deserve to die.
Walking quietly, I make my way to Tobias who is hunched over a piece of paper, trying to scribble down a plan, and failing. I rub his back with my hand comfortingly. He sighs deeply, "this isn't going to be easy, especially with everyone being so sad," Tobias admits noncommittally.
"Hey, I know, but it's going to be okay, I promise," I tell him, not even sure I believe it myself. Tobias turns so he facing me directly. A dismal smile forms on his face.
"I love you." Smiling I reply fearlessly.
"I love you too Tobias Eaton." We kiss slowly, tiredly. Upon the parting of our lips, we lean our heads together, our eyes still closed lightly. His rough hand clutches my cheek, carefully almost, as if I might break. In this moment of peace, I take a deep breath and thank whatever god there is, that we are both still alive. Of course peace can not last forever, especially in our world.
"Tris! Tris!" Caleb screams as he stumbles into the run down building we are staying in. My eyes shoot open and I look over my frazzled brother. Everyone else wakes up and becomes alert, even Shauna who had not really moved since the death of her little brother.
Caleb has blood seeping down the right side of his face from a gash on his temple. I rush to his aid and make sure he is not harmed anywhere else. "Tris she knocked me out and left, she was saying something about avenging Hector," Caleb explains in a panic. He is referring to Lynn, but she has not told him her name yet.
"She's going to Erudite," Marlene puts the pieces together as she grabs a gun off the floor, "c'mon, we have to go help her," Marlene insists. Tobias grabs her arm.
"Slow down, we can't just barge in," Tobias reminds her. Marlene rips her arm away from his grasp.
"That's my best friend that just stormed to Erudite, I am getting her ass back here now," Marlene persists. Uriah puts a hand on Marlene's shoulder.
"Mar, Four is right," he whispers. She sighs and put the gun down.
"Fine, make it quick."
"Depending on how far she gets, this might be our chance," Four states.
"Our chance to do what?" Zeke question as he kneels worriedly by Shauna's side as she lays lifeless on the ground, numb with the pain of the death of Hector. Tobias looks at him.
"To end this war." To end this war. That's all I want to do. "If she manages to get inside we follow and we take out Jeanine, we get rid of the factions, and we clean up this mess. If she doesn't manage to get in we live to fight again a different day," Tobias explains.
--------------------------------------
After collecting all of our weapons we head out and start on our way to Erudite. Caleb and Will know all the ins out outs of the compound which is a huge advantage. Shauna follows along, her only determination is to save the last family member she has. I stay close to Four and keep my eyes locked on Christina who is a few paces ahead of me with Will. "You think we can do it? We're really all that's left of Dauntless," I ask Tobias, keep my head pointed towards the Erudite compound. He sighs.
"I hope so." I notice him fidget with something in his jacket pocket but I don't think anything of it. We walk for what feels like hours of tension before the Erudite complex comes into view. There are a few guards surrounding the building, pacing and looking around for intruders, guns ready in their grasp. The ten of us crouch down behind a line of crumbled cement and half dead bushes. I can hear our breathes mixing, though I am not sure if our heavy breathing is a result of walking so far or nerves.
"I didn't see her," Uriah states, referring to the fact that Lynn must have snuck her way inside.
"How the hell did she get inside?" Marlene questions, whispering. I look up at the sky to take a calming breath and think. Instead I find a cable attached to the Erudite compound from a nearby building. It leads straight into a window that happened to be open. I elbow Tobias and motion to the cable. He finds it, along with the rest of our group.
"How did she get the cable to stick to the rim of the window?" Zeke asks. Caleb chimes in now.
"Erudite had invented a weapon that shoots cable tat calm onto any surface, she must have found one, or maybe she ran into some Erudite and took them out before taking their tools. I was trying to get her mind off her brother by talking to her about these tools, so its no wonder why she knew what it was upon seeing it," Caleb explains. We all nod in understanding, except for Shauna, who goes pale at the thought of her dead brother, Zeke pulls her closer to him as we squat, trying to think of a plan.
"Caleb or Will, if we mange to get past the guards, then what?" Christina asks. The two former Erudite boys glance at each other and shrug. I look around us and see that my face is plastered on old buildings. I am wanted, probably because I am a divergent.
"You know, before I saved four I was in Erudite, mostly to save my own ass, they liked me out because i was not useful enough, but if I brought in Miss Tris Prior who is wanted, the two of us could get in and while the guards are distracted with us, you lot can go and find little runaway or Jeanine and kill the bitch," Peter suggests. I consider his plan, its not bad, and it really only puts me in danger.
"No," Caleb and Four say in unison.
"Peter are you fucking crazy? What would happen to Tris?" Christina chimes in.
"It doesn't matter Chris, this is the only plan we have, and we are running out of time," I remind my group. Tobias pulls my face with his hand so I am looking at him, drowning in his concerned blue eyes.
"Tris I am not letting you do this without being one hundred percent sure that you will be okay," Tobias protests, "I'll go instead, I'm probably wanted to," Tobias offers.
"No, you're better in combat, they need you," I tell Tobias. Four shakes his head slightly in disbelief, but accepts Peter's plan.
"I will come find you as soon as I can, I'm not going to let anything happen to you," Four tells me as Peter prepares to lead he and I into Erudite.
"I can take care of myself," I tell my love. Peter grabs my wrist and begins to pull me along, away from my friends.
"I know," Tobias replies as I am tugged away. I look quickly to my brother and flash a quick smile before pretending that I am being captured by Peter.
"This better work," I tell Peter angrily. Peter snorts.
"I thought you were okay with dying," Peter retorts.
"I am, but I also want Four to meet his kid," I blurt out. I notice Peter hesitate as we walk.
"Woah Stiff, thats some heavy information. You volunteered to do this even though you're pregnant," Peter exclaims.
"What, you disappointed?"
"No, pleased." I walk on, shocked.
"Pleased?" I question.
"You've finally lived up yo your title, now you're Dauntless," Peter states smirking. The Erudite guards notice us as I freeze, completely shocked by Peter's words. "Hey I've got a Divergent! I've got Tris Prior!" Peter yells so the guards come racing towards me. As I am engulfed by the guards, I just barely see Tobias leading my friends to a now unguarded entrance. I try not to smile at our little victory. Now we just have to find Lynn and kill Jeanine.
