After the next show, Laney was already tired of living on the tour bus. With no time to explore any of the stops, it felt like imprisonment. The headlines began to flood in about him touring and Laney joining, with speculations about them being engaged or her being pregnant.
Morgan was swamped with media interviews from the bus but tomorrow was a nerve-wracking stop: Memphis. All she could think about was when she got that link sent to her of him making out with those girls and moved her stuff out. It was even more difficult to ease her mind since she had nothing to do except read on the bus and text friends.
As she sat on the bed reading her dark fantasy book, the phone rang with Ana's name on it. They stopped talking as much but they still talked enough to be friends and that's what mattered to Laney.
"Hello?"
"Hey Laney! How have you been? I've missed you so much," Ana said.
"I've been good, I've been on the bus with Morgan. He is doing some media right now and well I'm... reading. What have you been up to?" Laney asked putting her book down.
"Work. The office has been BUZZING ever since you left. We have a crazy influx of clients coming and going. Jack has been a pain in the ass, but we miss you a bunch. Where are you headed to next?"
"Memphis. I miss you guys a lot, I just know it wouldn't have worked," Laney sighed.
She truly did miss work. Having her own social circle at work who are her best friends that she doesn't see anymore really stung, especially since they saw each other all the time.
"Memphis?"
"Memphis"
"Are you okay... I mean-"
"Yeah it's been on my mind but it happened you know. You and Jack should come to a show soon," Laney said.
"We may fly in for the next one actually so we can see you. Would you be able to get us tickets?" Ana asked.
"Of course! I would love for you guys to come. Plus Thomas and Lauren will be here," Laney smiled at the thought of the reunion.
"Ok let me talk to Jack right now actually and get back to you," Ana said.
"Alright bye"
"Bye"
Laney couldn't help but feel a sense of emptiness from it all. Not having a job was rough and made her overthink. But she couldn't have a job anymore since she was dating Morgan, Ana told her that people came to the office crazily looking for her.
As she read her book, her mind just wandered to what her life could be. What it was meant to be. Right now all she felt was alone today. It didn't help that Morgan was on vocal rest most of the time and that he was so focused on himself.
She understood the reasons behind it all but it was still difficult to swallow. Her mind wandered off to the lake behind the house in the morning, where the fog just danced in the mornings. The sound of the birds chirping when she opened the patio door. Her art studio and her telescope waiting for her at home. Waking up to Morgan.
Her thoughts were beginning to eat her alive and this was only the beginning.
Instantly she called Lauren, the one person who could possibly relate.
"Hello?"
"Hey Laur are you busy?"
"Not at all! The kids are on a playdate," Lauren said.
"I am internally freaking out," Laney whispered, "We haven't been able to stop and explore anything. I'm just stuck here and Morgan can't talk you know. Ana called me about work and well... I miss home. I miss having a job. They're coming to the next show too".
