Blonde long hair, piercing blue eyes, it was his ex. More specifically, the ex Laney saw in the headlines with HIS kid. As she stepped onto the patio, both heads turned towards her and it went quiet momentarily.

"Laney babe you should-"

"I'm Katie," the girl greeted her.

"Laney nice to meet you," Laney smiled.

Katie was stunning and compared to Laney, I mean Morgan downgraded. Laney wanted to go into this with no bad blood so she was going to watch everything unfold.

"You took that kid away from me. I'm not paying one damn cent," Morgan seethed at Katie.

"You can see him, it's been hard having Josh adjust to the thought but he's open to it now. You can't blame him especially considering we were engaged. I'm not asking for child support. Do you want to be involved or not?" Katie asked.

Engaged? Laney nearly choked, she had no clue that her and Morgan were that serious at one point. It felt like a slap in the face from Morgan because she didn't know, but she was going to wait to bring that up.

"You know what? It's time you leave KT, I'll call you. I need time to think," he pointed at the door.

"Morgan. I'm serious with Josh. We can co-parent. Hell even add Laney to this if you're serious about her. But don't be mad that I gave you a chance later on. It was nice meeting you Laney," Katie said as she walked through the house, "He's a wildfire be careful".

"Bitch," Morgan muttered under his breath while he closed the front door, "She told my mama that she was lost on the way here to get my address. I'm pissed".

Laney just stayed silent processing everything she saw and heard as she stared at Morgan. He stared back, "What?".

"Engaged?"

Morgans' eyes widened from the realization as Laney dryly chuckled, "I need to go on a drive". Walking past him, she felt his hand stop her and turned around.

"What?" she asked.

"Wait... can I at least tell you?" he sighed, "I know I should've brought that up".

"No shit. You're honestly a piece of shit for that. What's next that I don't know? Are you engaged to someone else now? I need to drive so don't tell me to wait," she scoffed.

She brushed his hand off and walked to her car, sitting inside, and dialed Leslie as she drove off.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Leslie! This is Laney, do you care if I swing by?" exclaimed Laney.

"Not at all... what has he done this time?" Leslie asked jokingly.

"Oh I'll let you know as soon as I get there," she said with the same energy back, even though she wasn't joking.

"Drive safe," Leslie responded and hung up, leaving Laney in her thoughts while driving to hers.

Even though Laney didn't have her mom nearby, she knew she could count on Leslie. Right now, her mom was too busy with her older sister's newly married life, which was nice for a breather. But she missed having her mom to be able to vent to and really talk to.

As she pulled into the driveway, Laney collected her thoughts slowly. Leslie came out as Laney parked, making Laney paint a smile on her face before walking up to the house. It was definitely a little chilly, summer was unfortunately ending.

"This wind!" she exclaimed hugging Leslie.

"Get inside I made some banana bread earlier, that'll warm you up," Leslie hugged her back ushering her inside.
