Queen Celeste's POV:
Pacing back and forth, I try to still my racing heart.
I had been locked away for days without a word.
Food was delivered by servants in silence.
When the door opens again, I am surprisingly relieved to see Lord Miles again. I step closer to him, hoping for good news.
"Queen Celeste, by order of King Shane you are hereby arrested on charges of adultery and treason. You are to remain in your quarters until the trial is complete." Lord Miles says
I watch dumbfounded as servants flood the room, stripping it bare of everything but the mattress, removing clothing, furniture, chests and so forth. I wish more than anything to speak, to get more clarity on these ridiculous charges but I am at a total loss for words.
How could King Shane do such a thing?
This must be a mistake.
The following days are full of dread, panic and isolation.
Enough to make even the most sane fall into madness. Each time the door opens, a wave of fear hits.
Will this be Lord Mikes again, proclaiming my death warrant?
My innocence?
Will I be locked away until my last breath or sent to death?
Then an even worse thought drives me almost to my end.
What will happen to my children?
Three days pass before Lord Miles visits again.
This time in the deadness of night.
I had yet to sleep since his first visit.
In my exhaustion I had managed to pass out, for a short while.
I sit up when he enters.
He bows, respectfully and I stand.
"Queen Celeste, by order of King Shane and the council, you have been found guilty on all accounts. It has been discovered that you have, on multiple accounts, invited your Knightsman, Sir Navarro, into your chambers. It has been revealed both through Navarro's confession and through a close examination of Prince Adam that he is in fact not the son of the King but the bastard of your Knightsman."
I listen, mouth agape, horrified.
"Prince Adam had therefore lost all titles and clamors to the throne and had been relieved of all custody, sent away anonymously to a secret location."
The sadness evaporates immediately, replaced with rage.
Tears spring to my eyes but I blink them away, stepping closer now to Lord Miles. Instinctively he places a hand upon the handle of his sword.
He disowned and abandoned Adam?
"You and the council are all mistaken. Adam is the King's child!" I snap
"Please step back, Majesty."
"You may do to me as you wish but my children needn't be affected by these heinous lies!"
"Majesty, please."
Lord Miles holds up a hand, halting my approach.
"Judgement has been passed. You hereby revoke your right as Queen and shall remain here under the King's command until he decides upon the time you are to be executed." Lord Miles says
Execution?
The man I loved.
The father of my children....
He is going to take my life.
