A Way Out

Brother

- Kendras POV -

I woke up and remembered everything. 

I remember the lab and WCKD and Thomas- thomas. Minho. Everyone. 

"Hey how are you feeling?" I heard someone ask and turned to see- "Teresa?" I asked. 

she looked at me in shock and said, "You- you know me?" 

Tears filled my eyes, "You were my best friend." 

Her eyes widened in shock and said, "I'll go get the guys-" I cut her off, "Let me go." She nodded and we walked out and I saw Minho, Thomas, and Newt walking together. 

Minho was the first to notice me and he broke away from them and ran towards me and picked me up in a hug. I laughed and he set me down and cupped my face with his hands, scanning it. "Your okay? Like actually okay?" I nodded and he hugged me again. 

When I pulled away I saw Newt and he said, "Thank god." And hugged me. I chuckled and then pulled away and saw Thomas. 

Tears filled my eyes and I covered my mouth with my hand. "Thomas." I said through tears. "What is it?" He asked. 

I met his gaze and said, "Thomas you're my brother." 

His mouth gaped and tears welled in his eyes and he said, "I thought so too." 

I laughed through tears and we hugged and cried while holding each other. "You dumbass." I muttered and he chuckled. We both held onto each other for dear life and when we finally pulled away I talked to everyone else and explained my memories. I explained WCKD but I didn't know why everyone was in here still. 

"Do you know how to get out?" Newt asked me. I shook my head and everyone looked a little disappointed.

 "The only things I know is that we were put in here by WCKD and that I did something to get thrown in here but I'm not sure what. What I do know is that-" I looked at Thomas and then Teresa. I sighed before continuing, "what I do know is that we worked for them, we put them in here." I said to Thomas and Teresa, nodding my head towards our friends. 

"But- I don't understand. If we worked for them, why are we in here?" Thomas asked. 

I shrugged, "Dunno, but I know I did something bad that got me thrown in here and-" I was cut off by Alby yelling my name. 

Suddenly him and Gally were running towards me. I smiled and hugged them both at the same time, "I missed you guys," I said, muffled in their shoulders.  

When we pulled away I explained everything to Alby and he was appreciative but Gally looked pissed. "So I was right. Thomas is the reason everything is going to shit." 

I furrowed my brows and said, "Listen, I know we are all not happy with the truth, but Thomas is my brother so shut the hell up Gally." 

He stared at me for a second and scoffed, "Fine." He said and walked away. 

I sighed and felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned and saw Minho. I smiled and he pulled me into another hug. "Glad to have you back Kenny." He said. 

"Thanks Minho."

Minho, Thomas, and I were all sitting under the hut talking when we heard screaming. My head snapped up and Thomas rose to his feet. I looked at Minho and we made our way out of the hut. 

We walked over to Bert who was holding a torch and Thomas asked, "Winston whats going on?" 

"The doors, they aren't closing." Winston said. 

I looked at Thomas in fear and took off towards everyone. We made it to the doors and heard rumbling. Then a loud obnoxious screech was heard and then a loud boom. I turned to my left and saw a door above the maze start to open. Then another loud boom and another door and another door opened. I swallowed hard and my breathing started to become uneven. "Shit." I muttered. 

I looked at Thomas and he said, "Okay, Chuck I want you to go to the Council hall and start barricading the doors."

"Winston you go with him." Alby ordered.  

"Get the others," Gally said, "Tell them to go to the forest and go hide. Now!" 

"Newt I want you to go grab every weapon you can find, Ill meet you at council hall." Thomas said. Newt nodded and took off to the weaponry with Fry and a couple others. 

"Kendra." Thomas said looking at me. "You do not leave Minho or I's side do you understand?" I nodded and Minho put his hand on my lower back. He nodded at me. 

We heard screaming and screaching and looked towards the maze and saw the griever begin to approach. 

"Alright everybody hide!" Thomas yelled. 

Minho grabbed my hand and we took off. We ran to the woods and separated from Thomas. Minho led me to the shack we had built a year ago for when it got late in the map room for the two of us to stay in. There was an extra bed for Ben but... 

We locked the door and Minho held up a finger for me to be quiet. The shack was tiny, Only big enough for two hammocks and one cot on the floor. we both sunk underneath one of the hammocks and sat up against the wall. 

We heard screaming and a screech. My breathing got heavier and I heard the metal clinking and all of a sudden I was back in that stupid maze, cornered. I felt like I couldn't catch my breath and a tear slid from my eye. Minho noticed and grabbed my hand. 

"Hey." He said softly. 

I looked down and he lifted his free hand up to my chin and turned my face towards his, "Hey it's okay, we will be okay." Another tear fell out of my eye and he brushed it with his thumb. "I will not let anything happen I promise." He said and reached out both his arms and on instinct I easily slid into them. 

My face pressed against his chest and he kept one arm around my waist and the other in my hair. I heard the metal clink again and gasped, "Its okay," He whispered. 

We sat still and the only noise was the metal and our breathing. We sat for what felt like hours. I was getting tired and I knew that we had to go out tomorrow into the maze. 

I looked up at Minho who was also struggling to keep his eyes opened and simply put my head back down and fell asleep.

When morning came around, Minho shook me to wake me up. I groaned and rubbed my eyes and gave them a second to adjust to the sunlight. 

"Cmon," He said softly and helped me up and we walked out. 

We made our way over to everyone and I gasped when I saw the Glade. There were fire marks all around, everything was destroyed and broken and I couldn't see anyone. 

I looked to Minho and he grabbed my hand and said, "Cmon." He led me to the gathering and we walked in and saw Gally, Newt, Chuck, Fry, Winston, and a couple other Gladers. 

They all looked up and Newt muttered, "Thank God." and hugged me. 

I sighed and hugged him back. He pulled away and I said, "What the hell is going on? Where is Thomas? Alby?" I looked to Newt and he sighed. 

"I'll tell you what's going on," Gally began, standing up and furiously making his way over to me and slamming me against the wall behind me, "what happened is Thomas led half of our friends to get killed including Alby." 

I gasped and Minho threw him off me, "Relax dude," Minho said. 

I looked at Gally in shock and said, "Where the hell is my brother." 

"The pit sweetheart. May as well get a good look at him now because he isn't gonna be alive much longer." Gally said with a smirk and I simply walked out of the gathering. 

I made my way to the pit and saw Thomas. He looked up at me and said, "Thank god Kendra I thought you were dead."

I smiled and said, "It'll take more than that to kill me." He smiled and I said, "So what's the plan?"
