A Way Out

Safe? Maybe not

"Help!" Someone cried out. "Help! Help!" 

We all turned as we watched Thomas being chased by Ben and Ben lunged at him and Thomas fell to the ground. We all took off towards the two and I was there first with Newt. 

"I'll kill you!" Ben yelled. 

Thomas struggled under Ben's weight as Ben strangled him. Then I grabbed a spear and hit Ben with it, throwing him off Thomas. 

"Hold him down," Newt said. 

Gally and Newt held him down and I helped Thomas up. He nodded at me and then I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned and saw Minho and he nodded at me. He came to my side and I watched Ben struggle, trying to get up. 

"Calm down Ben," Gally said. 

Fry crouched down and Held Bens legs down and asked, "What the hell hapened?" 

"He just attacked me," Thomas said. 

I looked to his other side and saw Chuck and he sheepishly smiled. 

Suddenly, Alby came through the crowd and Ben said, "No, no!" 

"Alright lift his shirt." Alby ordered. 

I crouched down and lifted up his shirt and gasped. He had been stung. There was a red mark in the middle surrounded by a gross purple and blue kind of vains. I almost threw up it was so gross. 

"No no please" Ben said. 

"He's been stung." I whispered. 

Alby swore and Gally said, "In the middle of the day?" 

We all exchanged looks and Ben said meaningless pleads. He started to sob and my heart broke a little. 

"Put him in the pit," Alby ordered. 

Ben sarted to lash and scream and we had to use five people to lift him up to take him to the pit. 

"Listen to me! Please please stop!" Ben yelled but it didn't do anything against what was going to happen to him.

I stood in a crowd as I watched Minho walk ben up to the front of the maze with Bens hands behind his back. 

"No please please- Minho- don't do this." He said through grunts. "Listen to me- please!" Ben tried again but Minho's hand stayed steady as he threw him in the middle of the circle. 

"Alby!" Ben said as he walked passed him. A tear slipped out of Alby's eye and my heart broke a little and ben looked at me and said, "Kendra!" 

My eyes welled with tears as everyone closed the poles around him. Minho cut the rope tuing ben's hands and Ben fell to his knees and sobbed. "No no please don't. Please." Ben pleaded. Minho looked to me and i nodded and he threw Bens pack into the maze. 

Minho moved to my side and I felt his hand at my side and I grabbed it like it was a reflex. 

We all heard as the doors shifted and Ben attempted to move backwards and Alby yelled, "Poles!" 

Everyone lowered their poles on Ben and stood up. 

"No no please!" Ben sobbed as they moved inwards with the poles. 

He tried to push the poles away but no one was budging. Ben locked eyes with me and said, "Kendra please, your like my little sister please.." He begged and I let out a chocked sob and Minho muttered, "C'mon." 

"No!" Ben yelled.

But Minho simply put an arm around my back and led me away from him to the wall where I  took my balde from my side and crossed Ben's name off the wall.

The next day, Alby would be joining just Minho and I on our run since every other runner quit. I would be checking out the section where Ben was stung. 

I was running past familiar walls before I saw an area I hadn't been. "What is-" I trailed off and started to walk over, I walked past a few other walls and the maze shifted and opened up a new hall and I turned a corner and looked at the map and- I heard a growl. 

I turned and heard the clinking of metal. 

My eyes went wide and hands began to shake. 

"No no no-" I muttered and saw the most foul looking creature ever. Everyone knew grievers were not friendly but man were they ugly. It shrieked at me and I took of. I took a turn and the maze changed and I came to a dead end. "No- no!" I said. I was cornered and the cliniking was getting closer. 

"Minho!" I yelled. "Alby!" "Anyone.." I whispered and saw the griever turn the corner. The pain that came next was excruciating. Like my body was on fire and a thousand knife's were being dug into me at the same time. As it's stinger left my body and it walked away I slumped against the wall feeling totally useless. I couldn't think straight, everything was clouded. 

I cried in pain and said, "Please Minho please I need you..." tears were stinging my face and everything hurt.

"Kendra!" I heard someone yell. 

"Minho..." i said. "Kendra!" I heard him again, closer. 

"Im here" I said weakly. 

"Kendra!" I heard again and now I saw Minho standing in front of me. "Kendra!" 

I groaned and said, "Please Minho It hurts." I pleaded.  "I know Baby I know I'm going to get you out of here." He said in a hurry and picked me up bridal style. "Just stay with me." He mumbled. 

He ran through the maze. I wish I could say where we were or where we were going but I couldn't even remember my name. My eyelids felt heavy and everything was so foggy. 

"Keep your eyes open Kendra you are not dying on me please!" Minho pleaded. 

Everything hurt so bad. I didn't even want to be alive anymore. "Help!" Minho yelled and I saw the doors. 

His knee buckled, "Fuck I hurt my knee." He mumbled. 

"Help! Please!" He pleaded as he kneeled there with me in his arms. 

I heard faint yelling but it all felt so far away. 

The last thing I remember was Minho saying, "Good job, you just killed yourself." 

Then everything went black. 

- Thomas POV -

I waited at the doors for Minho and Kendra to get back. Alby had gotten back a while ago and told us he had to go map something so he got back as soon as possible. 

"C'mon..." I heard Chuck mutter. "There!" Chuck said and we all saw Minho running with Kendra in his arms. 

"Wait something's not right." I said. We all watched as Minho's knee buckled with Kendra in his arms. 

"Cmon Minho you can do it!" Chuck yelled. We all yelled in encouragement for Minho to bring them back but I just knew- "They're not going to make it" Gally said, taking the words right out of my mouth. 

I watched as the doors closed and there was no way they would be able to make it back. I watched as Minho cradled Kendra's body to him like he was protecting her with himself. And normally I wouldn't care but- Kendra. I know her. I know I care about her and I will not leave her there. So I took off. 

"Thomas no!" Chuck tried to plead but I ran into the Maze as fast as possible and slipped in barely. 

I reached Kendra and Minho and he said, "Good job. You just killed yourself." 

- 

Minho and I exited the maze with Kendra in his arms. Everyone cheered as we stepped out. 

"You see a griever?" Chuck asked. "Yeah- yeah we saw one" I said. "He didn't just see it- he killed it." Minho said. 

Everyone gasped in shock and Newt said, "How is she?" motioning towards Kendra. 

Minho shook his head, "I'll take her to the medic hut." Newt nodded and Minho walked away with Kendra in his arms. 

She has to be okay because I know she means something to me and I need to figure it out. I have to. She has to be okay.
