A Way Out

A Lose Win Situation

Thomas and I ran through WCKD. We ran to the medical wing. We kept running until we saw Teresa. 

"Teresa." Thomas said.

She looked up and said, "Thomas. Kendra-" 

I looked at her and I said, "The cure. It's our blood together, right?" 

She nodded and I said, "Make a damn cure then." I held my arm out to her and she looked up at me and then to Thomas who nodded. 

She quickly inserted a tube into each of our arms and she drew blood. Once that was done, she pulled the tubes out and poured the blood into a beaker. She mixed the blood. She worked on it and did a few things I didn't understand but in the end, she came out with a small vial of blue liquid. She held it out to us and Thomas said, "Go, find Newt." 

"Wait!" Teresa said. 

I turned and she said, "Stay, please. You guys can save so many lives. Please." She said. 

I looked to her and I said, "There was a time where I would have done anything for you, call you my best friend even. But we are long past you asking me for favors." 

She stared at me and I said, "You have enough blood from me to last a life time. Deal with it sweetheart." and I ran out. I talked into the walkie and said, "Where are you guys I have the cure." 

"Hurry!" I heard Minho say. I kept running. There were explosions outside and the rebels fighting against the guards. It was abosolute chaos. I saw the aircraft the Jorge was controlling. I reached it and said, "Wheres Newt?" 

Brenda looked at me and hugged me and said, "He's not with you?" I shook my head and heard Thomas say on the walkie, "Come down quick, I'm with Newt." 

I looked to Brenda and she nodded. I began to run. I ran past the fire and the bullets and the people fighting and I just kept running. I ran as fast as I could and saw Minho and Gally, they were hiding behind a pillar and they saw me and ran behind me. I kept runing as fast as possible and Minho said, "Over there!" I turned and reached Thomas. 

"I have it!" I said. 

But when Thomas stepped away from Newt, there was a knife plunged into his body. I gasped and my foot faltered. 

"No..." I whispered. 

I dropped the serum and Minho and Gally came to a halt behind me. Newt dropped to the floor and Thomas caught him in his arms. Tears welled in my eyes and I dropped to the floor on my knees. Minho fell beside me and wrapped me up in his arms as I sobbed into his chest. 

Gally slowly walked over to Newt and fell to his knees. No one even registered when Thomas stood up and walked back inside WCKD. 

All I knew was that Newt was dead and there was nothing we could do. 

"Guy's we gotta go." I heard Brenda say over the walkie. 

I looked up at Minho and he nodded. He helped me stand up and we all ran back though the line of fire. We ran until we reached the aircraft. We loaded up and I said, "Thomas ran back inside WCKD!" 

"Why?" Brenda asked. 

"I think he wants to save everyone! Go to the top deck!" I said. 

They flew the aircraft to the to deck of the building and I hopped out. 

"What are you doing?" Minho asked. 

I said, "I am going to save my dumbass brother." 

"Can you please just stick to your promise. Just this once?" He pleaded. 

I shook my head, "You know me better than that." He sighed and nodded and I ran inside. 

I held a gun up and walked through the halls. I walked into a room and saw Janson at the door, Teresa and Thomas were inside and I looked at Thomas and realized he was shot. I held the gun up to Jansons head and then looked to my right and saw cranks in glass. I smirked and shot the glass and Janson turned around and said, "You missed." 

I raised a brow and said, "Did I?" 

I watched the glass crack and ran over to Thomas and Teresa and I threw either of his arms around our shoulders. We ran out the room before we could see Janson die. We ran up to the top deck and Thomas dropped to the ground, his head in Teresas lap. 

A crank came through the door and I shot it and then talked on the walkie, "Where the hell are you guys?" 

"Coming!" Brenda said and I heard the whirring of a aircraft. 

I looked at Thomas and Teresa and said, "Let's go lovebirds!" 

I threw Thomas's other arm around my shoulder and Teresa and I lifted him up. Another building exploded next to us and Teresa and I held our footing. We kept going towards the aircraft and Thomas said, "kendra, you first!" 

"What-" I went to protest but him and Teresa lifted me up and Minho grabbed me and pulled me close to him. 

We sunk against the side of the aircraft and He moved hair out of my face and said, "I've got you." 

I let out and a breathe and laid my head back on his chest. I looked back over at Thomas jumping at the carrier. Vince caught his hand and Fry grabbed his other and they yanked him up. We pulled him back and Teresa stood there and I quickly got up and grabbed a rope and tied it to a bar on the aircraft. I threw it out and she grabbed it. 

I watched as another building collasped and I said, "Hold onto that fucking rope and jump!" 

She held onto the rope and jumped and i grabbed the rope and so did Minho and Vince and we yanked her up. She collasped backwards and the aircraft doors shut and she looked at me. 

"Thank you." She said. 

"I didn't do it for you." I said. 

She nodded and made her way back over to Thomas and held his hand. I collapsed back into Minhos arms and he kissed the top of my head and I ended up falling asleep and we held eachother until we reached the safe haven.
