Ch.54 - Getting Game

*BOOSH*

Ryuko's and Izuku's eyes widened as their visions were clouded with purple mist. Their forms, human and dragon, were enveloped almost entirely. Everyone was suddenly confused and forgot the fight, including the mental vestiges.

What the hell is this purple crap?

"Izuku, what's happening!?"

"I don't know. This has never happened to me before! I think it's another Quirk, though."

The One-For-All founder chimed. 'It is! This is En's Quirk. I'd recognise it anywhere.'

Before another word could be said, both could feel something was wrong...

*COUGH*

Boy and dragon alike started coughing violently, their eyes watering as each breath became harder.

Izuku barely croaked out. "Yoichi, *COUGH* w-what's happening *COUGH*!?"

'I-I don't know. This isn't supposed to happen. Smokescreen isn't supposed to do this!'

The boy's mind was wracking itself, trying to make sense of everything. Despite turning up One-For-All to such a high level, whatever this Smokescreen Quirk was doing, it managed to bypass his defences.

'Isn't One-For-All supposed to strengthen everything in my body...? Is it this toxic?'

Faintly, Izuku recalled the incident where All-Might rescued a boy from a river. A boy whose Quirk turned water acidic enough to cause the hero to squint his eyes in an awkward smile after the whole ordeal.

'Maybe... no matter how strengthened my body is with One-For-All, irritants can still get through...'

While the boy was thinking, Ryuko sprang into action with her wings and immediately started flapping to blow away the smoke. Izuku quickly caught on, putting on his mask with a built-in filter and mimicking her after sprouting his black wings.

*FLAP*

*FLAP*

*WOOSH*

*WOOSH*

But even with the smoke significantly dissipating, both were still close to keeling over as they practically hacked up their lungs, eyes still watering.

*COUGH*

*COUGH*

*COUGH*

Ryuko spoke this time but barely, her draconic eyes screwed shut as they wept endlessly. "What *COUGH* the hell is this stuff!? It's not stopping. *COUGH*"
