Sleeping was hard tonight for Ryuko Tatsuma as she lay awake in her bed with Eri resting beside her.
What Aizawa had told them earlier was playing on a loop in her mind...
--
"Long story short. We believe Eri was drugged..."
Ryuko was the first to respond. "How!? She was under watch, wasn't she?"
Aizawa sighed back. "We don't know yet. We're still investigating."
Izuku spoke up. "Could it have been the league? They have that guy who can teleport and that girl who can disguise herself... She could have been Mirio!"
The teacher shook his head. "The portal villain, Kurogiri, was apprehended recently. And I can confirm that Mirio wasn't the girl we've recently discovered is called Toga Himiko. I've been using my Erasure on various suspects who have been near Eri at that time to determine if they are this Himiko... As far as I can tell, she wasn't part of this; none of the suspects dissolved and became that girl."
The boy nodded dejectedly. "I see..."
Aizawa looked away briefly in thought before looking back at the parental pair.
"We'll continue our investigation and keep you both informed. I'm sorry to say there isn't much for you two to do at this point."
Ryuko frowned at the ground before turning her gaze to Aizawa. "I suppose all we can do is wait until you find something else...?"
"That, and you can watch, Eri. We don't know if who drugged her still has eyes on her or not...-"
Aizawa's visage became even more sour than it was.
"-And Eri might yet show side effects of the drug. The enhancer we found was... extremely potent. It goes without saying that a seven-year-old shouldn't be anywhere near such a substance. So keep a close eye on her and her health."
Ryuko and Izuku swallowed hard at that.
Neither of them wanted to consider the potential health issues this could cause for Eri. But they'd have to be mindful nonetheless.
The brooding man offered a nod. "I'll keep you two posted."
Aizawa finally took his leave as the hero-parents could only stew over what they had learned...
--
Ryuko found herself turning to the girl sleeping beside her, taking her hand, and softly caressing Eri's cheek.
Eri mumbled in her sleep with a smile, an act that somewhat eased the anxiety in her mother, but it was somber.
