*Judah POV*
We crept quietly as possible into the depths of the cave, carefully eyeing for the deadly source of a beast that would awaken if we made too many mistakes.
"Judah!" my bro whispered. "Come over here, but be careful!" "What is it?" I muttered back. "It's something I can't explain! You have to see for yourself," Micah answered.
I sneaked over to where he was standing and when Micah pointed down, I froze in shock. I could hardly see, but there were small patches of light scattered around the deep cavern.
"An Ancient City!" I gasped. Suddenly, I heard a little wispy noise from behind me. I turned around: I saw a small streak of blueish-greenish light illuminate a block with little squiggly things on top of it. I just set off a Skulk Sensor.
Luckily, there weren't any Shriekers nearby, so we were safe for the moment. "Judah! We can't afford to take risks like that!" Micah angrily whispered to me. "I know, I'm sorry," I whispered back.
If you made noise near a Skulk Sensor, the block would light up. You would be safe unless there were Shriekers near the Skulk Sensor you set off. If there were, you'd have three chances to stay as quietly as possible before the Warden emerges from the Skulk blocks surrounding the Shrieker. The Warden is the deadliest mob in the Overworld; it can kill you in one hit, and we don't know if we can respawn or not yet.
Once a Shrieker activated, it shrieks (obviously). Then your vision starts decreasing rapidly. As far as I know, night vision potions and milk from cows are the only way to combat this so you can see clearly, but we didn't bring either of those.
"How do we get down to the city?" I asked. "We could get some crazy loot!"
"But we could also die!" countered Micah. "We need to be smart, cautious, and most importantly: quiet," he listed.
"How about we try digging a staircase through the walls?" I suggested. "That way, we could get up and down from the Ancient City easily and we can make some sort of escape route when we spawn the Warden." "Let's do it," he nodded.
* * *
After many attempts (and finding a few diamonds along the way!), we finally had a sufficient enough staircase that led back up to the surface. Yes, we made a staircase from the bottom of the Overworld all the way to the surface. It took a whole lot of pickaxes and shovels, but we eventually got it done. And I don't know what our luck is, but we still haven't found anyone else of our family yet. I was honestly kind of missing them.
Back in the Deep Dark, Micah muttered quietly to me: "Are you ready for this?"
"Not at all. Let's just hope we don't spawn in the Warden at all," I answered.
"Yeah, and also don't get too greedy Judah. Your life is worth more than a couple of enchanted golden apples," he said.
"I'll try my best. Okay, now I'm goin' in." I started towards the mysterious structure with both hopes and fears of what I was going to encounter.
