I let out a frustrated groan when the call went to voicemail for the eighth time today.

I can stop thinking about me leaving Emilia there when I acted like a jealous asshole.

But, I wasn't jealous.

Just cautious.

"Thanks." I thank the driver and make my way into the large building.

I try not to observe my surroundings like I usually do because I'll waste time.

Time I don't have. All I want to know is if I cut the COO position.

Once I do, my family will be off my back and I won't have to worry as much as I have been.

Yes, I have trust issues. Yes, I worry, recently about this job, but nothing has worried me more than Emilia.

My feelings have been all over the place before this whole fake dating situation and still, she managed to stress me out more than other things going on in my life.

I make my way to the elevator but I'm stopped by a loud voice calling my name.

I turn confused. "Yes?"

It's the burgundy-haired woman from the other day. The receptionist.

"May I ask where you're going Mr Fontana?" She scans my body and then gives me a smirk.

"I have an appointment with Mr Thompson," I answer.

Usually, if you don't make the cut, you'd get an email but Mr Thompson wanted to see a handful of people in person so I hope he chose me or considered me for something decent to do in his building.

"Well, you have to check in first."

"No, you want me to check your number and I'm not going to." I scan her lanyard. "Have a good afternoon, Ms Johnson."

She scoff as I continue my way to the elevator and enter with another six other people.

It takes a while, but I finally get there to the thirtieth floor.

I take a deep breath and knock on the door.

I wait patiently for a few moments but don't hear a reply.

Knocking again, I check my emails again on my phone to make sure I didn't miss it. Maybe I'm not getting the position.

My heart pounds. Christian will be so disappointed. He's been helping me through this so I earn a rightful position in his old company that he gave up.
