As they walked into the bakery a woman of about 65 years old approached them "Hello.  May I help you with something?  You seem like a very happy couple."

Nathan "We are looking for wedding cakes to sample.  My fiancé loves wedding plans."

The baker "I'm Marilyn."

Maxie "Marilyn I would like to see what options you have as far as shapes colors designs textures fillings frostings and toppers."

Marilyn "Well I have so many options.  I realize I'm no Duff Goldman or Buddy Velastro but I can make any cake you want."

Maxie "Do you have any we can sample?  That way we can tell if we even agree on the same flavors.  Do you make patterns like say maybe so it looks a stream of blue flowing down the side of the cake?"

Marilyn "I can do pretty much anything you wish dear.  I will bring you two some samples."

She comes back with a tray of ten different cakes.

Maxie reaches for a chocolate covered raspberry chiffon cake while Nathan reaches for a sample of a vanilla strawberry.

They taste a bite of each others pieces and their own.

Maxie "I love both.  What do you think?  Lets try more."

They try every cake and decide to have her make a small cake on the top be the vanilla strawberry with the middle layer being the chocolate raspberry chiffon and the bottom layer being a mocha hazelnut mousse cake.

Marilyn "You said you wanted a draping of blue swirled around the side correct?  Like it were a stream winding along a rocky elevated path?"

Maxie "That is exactly what I want.  I know you will not disappoint.  The wedding is on December 31st."

Marilyn "Wow a New Years wedding.  You must have a special connection to that day."

Nathan "I showed up at her door step on 12/31/13 before she left town and when she came back a lot of drama ensued but we have always felt New Year's Eve was our day.  We never miss being together."

Marilyn "That is so sweet.  Young love.  It's just rare these days to see a couple strive towards such happiness.  All these kids nowadays wanting to just sleep with whoever is available to them.  They have no respect for real love anymore.  I can tell the two of you are going to be together for a long time.   I was with my Larry for thirty five years."

Nathan "What happened?"

Marilyn "He died from lung cancer three months before our 36th wedding anniversary.  It would have been yesterday."

Nathan looks at Marilyn then Maxie "Well I can only hope we last that long."

Marilyn "If all goes well with you and you remain committed to each other and your families it will last a lifetime.  There is nothing better in life than waking up to the woman or man you love with all your heart soul mind and body."

Maxie "You are so wise.  I am so glad we came to this bakery.  You seem like you could be a marriage counselor if you didn't work in this bakery."

Marilyn "I just make cakes and give out free advice if people ask."
