Brittany's P.O.V.

Seeing Jo in pain made it feel like something was tugging on my chest.

If only there is something I can do to ease her pain.

"Yes, baby, squeeze my hand, tight and harder!" I told her as I saw her wincing the pain.

"Where the fuck is that ambulance?" I yelled at everybody.

"2 minutes out, Brit." I heard someone say.

"Move away, all of you move away! Dammit, she cannot breathe with all your faces!"

Soon, the medic came and gave her first aid before loading her into the ambulance car.

I rode with them in the ambulance even though one of the medics told me not to do so.

I glared at him and made him feel like I was stabbing him just by using my eyes and he eventually let me.

"Jo, you're gonna be okay, okay? They will give you a strong painkiller later, okay? Yeah?" I tried to console and comfort her.

Her tears brimming her eyes, she's probably fighting for it not to fall.

It must be really painful and it hurts me more not to be able to take it away from her.

We reached the emergency room, my eyes not leaving Jo. Reassuring her everything will be okay.

"Miss, I need you to fill this up, please." One of the nurses stopped me as Jo was brought to a curtained room.

"I need to be with her, she's in pain!" I yelled.

"The Doctor will examine her Miss and I need you to fill up this form, we need her information." The nurse said.

I looked down at the paper that was on the clipboard and briefly read what was written on it.

Dammit, I don't even know her birthday.

Allergies in medicine?

I only know her name and her address. How much of a help is that?

"Umm..."

"What? You know the patient, right?" the nurse asked.

"I- I don't know if she has any allergies or, I don't even know her..."

"Just write her name, I'll ask her later about the others."

I wrote her name and her address and handed the nurse back the clipboard.

"Can I see her?"

"I will call you later once the Doctor is done examining her." And she walked away.

I sat in the waiting area where the patient's family members were.

Most of them looked worried, some were crying, some were on the phone updating whoever was on the other line, and some were already asleep.

I brought my hands to my face and rubbed my eyes.

From time to time I would stand up and would look to the room where they took Jo.

Why the fuck is taking it so long?

I think half an hour had passed when another nurse came and talked to me.

"Hi, you're the one who brought Josephine Thompson, right?" She started.

"Yes, how is she? Is she okay? What did the Doctor say?"

"The Doctor gave her painkillers but we need to X-ray her foot to see if she fractured her ankle. Do you know if she has insurance?"

"I- I don't know, but I will pay, okay? Do whatever tests are necessary, I don't care what it is, just do it!"

The nurse asked me to follow her to the billing station. Once done, I asked the nurse if I could see Jo.

She said okay but I could only see her for a minute as they needed to bring her to the radiology.

Even if it is just for a few seconds, it doesn't matter to me, I need to see her.

"Jo?"

She opened her eyes when she heard my voice.

"I thought you left me."

I closed our distance and hugged her even if she was lying on the bed.

"Never. Is the pain gone?" I looked at the drip stand where her meds were being administered.

"There's a little bit but tolerable." Jo lifted up her other hand and touched my face. "You look worried."

"Of course, I am worried!" My voice rose but she just giggled.

"It's cute." She said.

I stared at her eyes before I leaned over and kissed her.

"Wait, what are you allergic to?" I remembered to ask her.

"What?" She said confused.

"The nurse was asking me and I didn't know what you were allergic to. I should know these things, you know?"

She giggled again.

"I don't have any food allergies but I am allergic to penicillin. You?"

"No, I don't have any allergies. What's your birthday?"

Her brows were furrowed but still answered my question.

"May 13th. You?"

"March 08th."

"Hi, sorry, we have to take her now." Two nurses came and interrupted us.

"Yeah, yeah, of course." I gave them space as they set up Jo's gurney.

"I'll see you later." I told Jo as I tried to hold her hand as they wheeled her away.

I sat on the chair and waited for her return.

I remember to call Reese but I don't have her number. Jo's bag was left at the field and her phone was there.

I'll call her later. I thought.

After what seemed to be an eternity, Jo came back.

"Hey." I greeted her as they wheeled her back in. "Are you okay?" She looked sleepy.

"The painkillers are kicking in so she would be groggy unless she slept it off." The nurse answered me.

"Ohh."

Jo smiled at me and obviously did not hear us.

"Is there a family member that we can call? As protocol, we can disclose information only to family members." One of the nurses asked me.

"Umm, no. Her Dad is in prison and her Mom, I- I don't know how to contact her."

"You can tell her anything." We both looked down at Jo. Her eyes were half-closed.

The nurse nodded. "The Doctor will come and talk to you."

I pulled the chair near Jo's bed and sat.

I took her hand in mine.

"Go sleep, baby, I will not leave you, I promise."

Jo smiled and before she drifted to sleep, she whispered something.

"I love you."

I almost didn't catch it as it was just air coming out of her mouth.

"I love you too, Jo." I said even if I knew she couldn't hear me anymore.
