Chapter Four

"I'm sorry, I got a bit distracted. I made a new friend and we started talking. She invited me over to her house and I gladly accepted. Then the snow came along..." I didn't know what else to say. Would that be enough to stop her worry?

"Ok, well can I talk to your friend? I want to ask her if it's ok with her and her parents for you to stay overnight because its snowing too badly. I don't think I can even get out of the house." Great! She wanted to talk to my friend! What was I going to do?

I heard the door open and I looked up to see Jake walking towards me. When he got to me, he grabbed the phone from my hand and started talking in a girly voice. What was he doing? Ha he heard the conversation between Lori and me? How could he though? He was in the living room!

"You can stay in my room." He said interrupting my thought once again. It was becoming a habit of me zoning out and him bringing me back to reality.

"What?" I asked confused. How did he get Lori to agree? And why was he offering me HIS room instead of the couch on the living room or a guest room?

"You're my mate. I can't have you sleeping on the couch!" He said. Did he just read my mind? How? Is it even possible?

"Like I said, you're my mate, and mates can read each others minds." 

Mates? What? What is he talking about? What does he mean by mate? Soul mates? Does he think we were meant to be together or something? We don't even know each other that well and he already thinks we are soul mates?

"Lisa, I'm your mate! How do you not know that? Don't you feel anything when we are close?"

"No" I said denying it even though deep inside I knew that I had felt a connection between us. But that didn't mean that we are soul mates, did it?

"Lisa, listen to me. We are mates! I know we are, I can feel it! How do you not feel it?"

"I don't know you! How am I supposed to be your soul mate if I haven't even gotten to know you?"

"You don't have to! We were destined to be together! The universe made us mates! That's how us wolves are. We have mates!" Wolves? What did he mean with 'us wolves'? This was getting more confusing with every word he said. Mates...wolves...what did he mean with all of that?

"We are wolves Lisa! Don't you know that? Didn't your parents tell you already?"

"What do you mean by wolves?" I asked even more confused than i was before.

"We shift into wolv-" he cut himself off and then took a deep breath and started talking again. "Have you shifted yet? How old are you?" Shifted? Huh? What in the world is he talking about? He may be hot but it sounds like he just escaped from the crazy peoples place! And no, I don't know what it's called! I'm not the brightest person."So how old are you?" He asked once again.

"I'm 15..." I said and when I said that his jaw dropped open. What did I say? Was I NOT suppose to tell my age? Was there something wrong with it?

"Nothing is wrong with your age. It's just that I can't believe you haven't shifted yet! Mates can't read each others minds until both of them shift." Oh gosh, here he goes again with the mate thing and the shifting! Does he not understand that I have NO clue what he's talking about?

"What-"I started to say but he cut me off.

"You haven't shifted yet so that's good. I get to be with you during your first shift. They say that it can be pretty hard for girls to shift alone."

"What are you talking about? What do you mean we are wolves? How are we mates? And what does my age have to do with me 'shifting' a you call it?" I asked sounding irritated that I was so confused.

"You really don't know what I'm talking about?" He asks and I shake my head no. "Well in that case, maybe I should explain."

"You think?" I blurted out.

"Yes, how about we eat something and then I'll explain?"

I was about to say no when my stomach growled. Stupid stomach, I thought to myself. "Fine..." I finally said.

"Ok then, this way madame." He said as he opened the door for me to walk out and into the kitchen. I hope he cleared things up fast because I am not a patient person. I want to know what he's talking about and I want to know it soon! "Just calm down, everything will be cleared up in a bit. Just eat, then we'll talk." And with that I sat down at the table and waited for him to get me something to eat.

I know that I may sound a bit greedy when it comes to food, but I can't help being hungry all the time! He set down a plate of Chinese food in front of me. I love Chinese food! I didn't wait for him to sit down, I just dug in and started eating. I really hope that when I finish this heavenly food, he will explain everything to me. I drifted away from my thoughts and I let my hungriness consume me.
