Chapter Twenty

Hey, I'm sorry it took me so long. School has been keeping me busy. I will begin writing again, hopefully atleast a chapter a week. Also, I started another story called Beautiful Nightmare and I'd really like for all of you to read it. Anywho...here's chapter twenty. Enjoy.

The fight was looking really bad for Jake. I wanted to do something but I was in shock. I didn’t know how to help my mate. Tears started rolling down my cheeks and then suddenly I remembered that the Melanie was still here. She was probably scared to death. I walked over to her and her arms instantly wrapped around me. She was comforting me. Usually it would be the other way around. The adult or older person comforts the young, but right now, it felt nice to have her comfort me.

I stood there, unable to do anything. I stayed up last night practicing and learning all those spells and now, I can’t even put them to use. I just hoped for a miracle. There wasn’t much else to do considering my dumb self had forgotten everything due to the shock I was in for what was happening in front of me. As if the universe had heard me, a pack of wolves stormed in.

As the last wolf walked in, Mindy turned around confused allowing Jake to get a clear shot of her neck. Just as Jake was about to sink his teeth into my grandmother, another wolf stepped forward to protect her. With a growl from the other wolf, Jake took a step back. What the hell was going on?

Before I knew it, the wolf was licking the face of my grandmother. Pretty disgusting if you ask me, but that’s the way a wolf shows love. Wait a minute. LOVE. That’s it! This wolf was Mindy’s mate! Oh my, how in the world did this happen. I looked at Mindy and waited for a reaction but there was nothing. She seemed emotionless, as if she were frozen.

I waited for her to snap back to reality but again, nothing happened. Wow, this news must’ve hit her pretty hard. Finally I heard her let out a deep sigh. “I…I…I need a minute.” She said. For the first time since I’ve met her, she sounded normal. No evilness in her voice, just her normal voice. Mindy walked out instantly followed by her mate.

Jake’s wolf started stalking towards me but I motioned for him to stop because I didn’t want him to scare Melanie. I didn’t even know what Melanie was. Could she be human? She knew about witches, so maybe she’s not human. Melanie ran out of my arms interrupting my thoughts. She ran towards Jake and started petting him. He didn’t seem to mind, he actually seemed to be enjoying her petting him. The curiosity was killing me so I decided to ask Melanie if she was human or not.

“uh uhm” I cleared my throat. “Melanie, may I ask you something?” She turned away from Jake’s wolf and looked at me before replying.

“Yes, what is it?” She asked.

“Are you…um…well I was wondering if you are…”

“If I am human?” she finished my question. “Yes I am.” She responded to the question after a few seconds. “My father was a wolf and my mother a human. My brother was born a werewolf but I wasn’t. I’m just a normal human.”

“Where are you parents?” I asked getting even more curious by the minute.

“They…they…they are dead.” She said. And with that, my curiosity was gone and I was filled with sadness. “They died when I was a baby. My grandparents took care of us until one day the evil witch came along.” I could tell she was about to cry so I made my way towards her and wrapped my arms around her.

“It’s ok sweetie, it will all be ok.” I tried to assure her. Jake’s wolf rested his head on my shoulder and I immediately felt sparks. Oh, how I wish he was in human form right now. My mind was going wild with thoughts of Jake and I together. A growl brought my thoughts to a halt. I looked up and saw that all the wolves in the room were lined up in front of Jake. What was going on now?

It’s the heat. I heard a voice inside my head. It sounded like Jake’s, but how could that be? We’re mates, I can communicate with you through mind link.

So what is going on exactly? I asked in my mind.

Your thoughts. What? What was that suppose to mean? Your thoughts about…us. Well, they are making your scent almost irresistible. The fact that you’re in the heat is what makes it worse. Every unmated wolf here wants to mate with you. Lisa, you need to control your thoughts.

How do I do that? I want you Jake. I can’t believe I just said that.

It’s the heat babe. Don’t worry, it won’t last long. After we mate, you won’t have to worry about your thoughts anymore. You’ll be mine. You’ll be off limits to any other wolf.

Just as I was about to ask Jake something, Mindy walked in with her mate. He was in human form now. He stood 6ft tall with dark brown hair and hazel eyes. He didn’t look very old, maybe in his late 30’s. His arm rested on Mindy’s shoulder. Just as Jake was about to step forward, my grandmother’s mate stopped him.

“Wait. Listen to what she has to say.”
