Chapter Fourteen

Jake's POV

Two days had passed and I still hadn't found my beautiful mate. I was beginning to fall into depression even though it had only been two days. I knew then that I couldn't live without her. My father had been acting a bit weird ever since we were at the hotel. He has been conducting a search of his own but he won't tell me what's going on. I tried sneaking into his office but he's always in there. I began to grow impatient and decided to confront my dad. His investigation did involve my mate after all. I knocked roughly on his door then walked in without waiting for permission. You could say that the knock was just a warning that I was coming in. As I walked in, my dad stared at me with a confused face then he asked, "What may help you with son?"

"Well you see.." I cleared my throat, then continued, "I can't help but notice that you have been keeping me out of your investigation. Why?"

There was silence, then he spoke up, "Son, there are some things you don't know and that you shouldn't know."

"But why? This involves MY mate! I'm suppose to protect her! How am I going to do that if you're keeping secrets away from me about MY mate!"

"Ok son, I think I figured out why Mindy wants to kill her."

"WHY?" I yelled out, wanting to know right away.

"You may want to sit dow-"

"I don't need to sit down, just tell me!"

"Ok, well your mate is...she's...."

"She's what?" I needed to know, not that it would change my feelings towards her, but it would help me understand why some psycho wants to kill her.

"She's a mixture of all three species...she is-will be-the strongest person on this planet!"

"But how?"

"Her mother is a witch and her father is a hybrid-a wolf and vampire. Lisa's grandmother, Mindy, didn't want them together. She doesn't want the combination of species to occur because she will lose her powers."

"But what does that have to do with my mate?"

"There is a legend that says that someone will be born that is a combination of all three species, and that person will join all the species together. Mindy doesn't want that. That's why she's trying to kill her."

"How much time do we have?" I asked. I can't believe this! My mate is in serious danger! Her GRANDMOTHER wants to kill her! Why hadn't she told me that it was her grandmother that was after her? And why didn't she tell me that she was a combination of all three species?

"Well, the legend says that the only way for her to get her full powers is to mate ON her 16th birthday. If she doesn't, she'll have to chose which specie she wants to be, she'll only be able to be either a werewolf, a vampire, or a witch."

"Well it's not that bad, she can chose to be a werewolve and we'll still be together." I can't believe I just said that! My mate was destined for greatness and here I am being selfish!

My dad appeared to have realized that I regreted what I had just said. "It's fine son, it's normal for you to just want your mate but if she was destined to bring the species together, then you should help her. You need to be there for her and provide her support."

"Yeah, but first we need to find her. I'll be on my way now."

"NO. You can't possibly believe that I will allow you to go alone! Plus, you don't even know where she could be!"

"Actually, I think that her birthday is coming soon because she has started the heat. This makes her scent stronger, which will be really helpful."

"Son, you do remember that all unmated males within 1000 miles will want to mate with her because of the heat?"

"Oh damn! How could I forget! That means I have to leave...NOW!"

I started running towards the door and ignored my dad's attempts to stop me. I must find my mate at all costs. I will not allow any other wolf to touch her! She is MINE! I started running towards where her scent was the strongest.

Lisa's POV

I almost kissed him! I can't believe it! I pulled away just in time though. I have to admit it was hard because he is very strong. After I pulled away from him, I ran in closet and locked the door. A little odd huh? Who puts a lock on their closet? Who cares! At least I'm safe...for now.

Great...what am I suppose to do now? I'm bored and my legs are beginning to fall asleep. Lazy legs! Sitting in this closet is so uncomfortable and it's dark! Did I mention I am terrified of the dark? I always thought some scary monster was going to get me in the dark. OH MY GEEZ! What if there is a monster in here...with me???? Aaaaahhhhh (internal scream)

I was getting ready to run out of the closet, but then I heard footsteps and yells. There were many, many, many footsteps. Who else could there be besides that robot-guy that smells like my mate? "She's mine!", "No! She's mine!", "I will mate with her!", "No, I will!"...those are some of the stuff I could hear. From what I could infer, they were all guys. Oh my! What are all those guys doing out there? I heard footsteps approaching. They were getting closer and closer to the closet. I closed my eyes and did the only thing I could do. Pray that I would get out of this alive.
