Anjali sat at her office desk completing her deadline task when she heard a shrill voice call her name.
“Ms. Malhotra!”
Anjali refrained from rolling her eyes at the bitchy tone. Shefali Jha was the assistant of their CEO who was hated the same amount as the CEO herself. Both of them complemented each other. It seemed like a competition as to who was more a bitch.
“Yes, Ms. Jha?”
Anjali replied in the same tone while turning to face the makeup-caked face.
“The CEO wants to see you. Now!”
Anjali frowned. What did she want to do with her now? She never talked to employees below the HOD level. It was below her standards.
“Oh! Sure!”
Anjali got up and smoothed a hand down her pants. The assistant escorted her till the office and asked her to wait outside while she went in herself. 10 seconds later she came out and said.
“You may go in now.”
Anjali nodded and knocked on the door. She entered after receiving permission and saw the biggest bitch of the office, their CEO, Ms. Khurana sitting on her leather chair.
“You called for me mam?”
“Ms. Malhotra, please have a seat.”
Anjali took her seat and waited for her to explain why she was called. She pulled out an envelope and opened it to reveal a letter inside it.
“You see, we've received an offer from the AnAb Co. & Co. Ltd. You've heard of it right?”
Anjali lowered her eyes and nodded. Oh she knew it very well.
“They are willing to invest in 5% of our shares, guide us throughout the production stage and also guarantee a minimum of 30% sales each year or bear the cost of whole production if they fail.”
Anjali looked at her in shock.
“That's - that's a very good offer mam.”
“I know it's a good offer darling.”
“But I don't understand why you're discussing it with me. This is something that should be discussed with the HODs.”
“You see now there's a catch darling. The offer states that it will be valid only if we exchange our employee with them. And they've asked particularly for you.”
Anjali had no words now. How could he do something like this? And that too without informing her beforehand.
“Umm-you mean an employee for an offer.”
“Exactly darling!”
Anjali pondered for a moment. The idea didn't seem bad. Plus she'd be free from this bitch.
“So what have you decided mam?”
She asked and her face fell.
“Well, I don't have many decision rights here, you see. The letter demands your signatures. No one else gets the authority to decide but you.”
She gritted the words out and Anjali could see how much it hurt her ego.
“What? May I see the letter once mam?”
She read the letter quickly and sure enough they demanded her signatures. She then saw the signatory and a smile formed on her face.
Signed by the CEO, Abhimaan Singh.
“Ab toh tum 24 ghante mere paas rahogi.”
“24 ghante? Kaam nhi kru mai?”
“Phir mai apna kaam tumhare kadmo mai rakh dunga.”
And what a unique way he had to do that. She took a pen from the holder and signed the offer.
“Here, mam.”
“Thank you darling! And congratulations on your engagement. It's all over the television.”
Her tone told that she wasn't actually happy for her. Anjali didn't mind. She was very happy. She looked at the diamond on her finger and smiled wide.
“Thank you mam.”
“I'll leave you to clear your desk now. You are expected there in 2 days.”
Anjali nodded and took her leave from there. She went back to her desk still unable to believe the move he had pulled.
She was still lost in his thoughts when she heard someone grasp her hand.
“Oh my God! Girl, look at the size of that rock! You're such a lucky bitch, Anjali!”
She heard the girl who sat on her left squeal in a shrill voice. She'd never liked her. So fake and judgmental.
Anjali slowly pulled her hand out of her hold while smiling too sweetly.
“Thank you, Richa.”
“I was so shocked when I saw it over the news. You seriously are a smart one, haa! Kisi ko khabar tak nhi hone di that such a bigshot is your fiance.”
Anjali just smiled awkwardly. She knew people like Richa could never understand hers and Abhimaan’s relationship.
“Koi tips wagerah hai kya hamare liye? How can we tie down a bigshot with us? Kitne crores ki malkin banogi after this marriage?”
At this, Anjali felt like clawing her eyes out.
“Did-did you just materialise my relationship with the man I love?”
She couldn't believe it was happening.
“Oh come on! It's not like I don't understand.”
“No! You don't understand. Me and Abhimaan, we knew each other since our college time. We are together since then. So, I don't really care about his money or whatever.”
“It's ok babe! I know. I mean, even I would agree to marry someone so rich. Phir looks and all toh temporary hai na.”
“Wh-what?”
Anjali couldn't believe this is where the conversation was headed.
“Yeah! Come on, it's not like you don't know. Look at you girl, kya kami hai tumhe ladkon ki. Yaha se bahar nikalte hi 100 rishte aa jaayenge. And let's be honest, that guy is rich but he is nowhere near you lookwise.”
This awoke something so sinister in Anjali and she gave the girl a challenging look. Oh! Shit was about to go down.
“Achha? Wo kyu?”
“Have you seen how healthy he is?”
“And what's wrong with being healthy?”
Richa stuttered and knew that she had gone too far. So she tried damage control.
“Arre! When did I say there was anything wrong? Leave that. Tu bta na, how did you get him to say yes to the marriage?”
Her tone wad teasing but she knew the reality and her mentality behind those words. Anajli smiled. A sweet smile which said that she had triggered the bitch in Anjali.
