The footsteps reached my room, and Dally walked in. I gave him a puzzled look, wondering what he was doing here. I then said "Hey Dally, what are you doing here? My brothers aren't here." He said "I came to check on you stupid."

I gave him another puzzled glance and said "why? Your my brothers friend." He said "You're part of the gang and the gang takes care of one another." Dally might not be a good person, but he was loyal to the gang, I had to give him that.

I said "well Johnny's here already, he can take care of me." Dally nodded and said "yeah man, I just saw him in the kitchen." In a few moments Johnny came back with chicken noodle soup and handed it to me. I smiled and said "thanks Johnny." He nodded and gave me shy smile in response.

Dally then lit a cigarette and handed it to Johnny and then lit one for himself. Dally then glanced at me and said "ya want one?" I shook my head, I was like my brother Darry who never smoked, but I was like Sodapop in the way that I never played sports.

Dally then said "I have a rodeo to go to with Buck, see ya guys later." Johnny said "bye Dal." I said "bye Dally." And with that Dally left the room and I heard his footsteps fade as he reached the front door and slammed it as he walked out.

Johnny sat back down on the bed. He then said "so, when are you going back to school?" I said "today is Friday, so in three days, I got suspended until Monday." He then asked "How did you get suspended." I answered "I got into a fight with a Soc."

His eyes went wide "I never thought you would get into a fight, what happened." I replied "one of the reject Socs I used to be friends with had secretly hated me and she started to bully me, and then she punched me, and I fought back."

Johnny suddenly pulled me into a hug and said "you're not alone, the Socs are mean to me too, just know I'm here for you." I hugged Johnny back. I was so glad I was getting to see this side of him, Johnny tended to be the gang's pet, a nervous wreck, but right now he was calm.

After I finished my soup, I soon fell asleep, Johnny was still hugging me and I felt safe and warm in his arms.

When I woke up, I noticed Johnny was gone. He had probably went somewhere with Ponyboy. Johnny and my twin hung out a lot. I was feeling much better when I woke up. I decided it would be okay to go downstairs.

When I went downstairs I noticed my brother Sodapop was home, he must have finished his shift at the DX. He seemed to be taking a nap on the couch. I felt bad he had to quit school to work, I knew I should be more grateful that I was able to stay in school.

I quietly walked into the kitchen, trying not to wake up Sodapop. Since I was the only one who was home and awake I started making dinner, I wasn't the best cook, but I was able to make grilled cheese.

After I finished making the grilled cheese I made a chocolate cake for breakfast tomorrow, we all liked eggs and chocolate cake for breakfast. After I finished cooking I knew I had to wake Sodapop up.

I walked into the living room and went to the couch. I gently shook Sodapop and said "Sodapop, dinner's ready." He then said groggily "are Ponyboy and Darry home yet." I shook my head. He then said "Ponyboy and Johnny left earlier, they should be back soon." I nodded and we both walked to the kitchen table.

A few minutes after we started eating Johnny and Ponyboy walking in. Johnny gave me a shy smile and I motioned for him to come sit next to me. Once he did I asked "So, where did you two go?" Ponyboy answered "we went to see a movie that had Paul Newman." I nodded in understanding. Ponyboy had told me once that he wished he looked like Paul Newman.

Once we finished eating Johnny said nervously "Jenny, I was wondering if you would maybe come to the lot with me." I was wondering why he would want me to go to the lot with him, he usually went there with Ponyboy.

I smiled a little and said "yes" Ponyboy seemed confused and gave Johnny and I a suspicious look. Sodapop gave me a smile of encouragement, he seemed to know that I had a crush on Johnny, I blushed a little because he knew.

Johnny and I then said our goodbyes to the others and started walking to the lot. I was starting to regret not bringing a coat, the night was starting to get cold.

Soon Johnny and I reached the lot. Johnny sat down on the ground, I took a seat next to him for a moment we watched the sunset. I was waiting for him to say something.
