They both are the ones

Chapter 21-Dally's return

As I was pacing around the room I heard a thud, and in a matter of seconds I felt a pair of strong arms around me. I felt relief instantly, knowing I was in Dally's arms.

Dally soon reached his head down so our lips could meet. I felt his rough lips on mine, even though they were rough they still brought me comfort.

In a few moments he pulled away and pulled me closer, it was rare for Dally to ever be this affectionate. I guessed he must have forgiven me.

Soon Dally said "I missed you doll." I said in response "I missed you too." We continued to hold each other for a while longer.

Soon Dally sighed and said "so, you've made up your mind, it's me right?" I nodded and said "yes, I love you the most, but I don't know how to tell Johnny."

Dally sighed, he also didn't want to hurt Johnny, they were best friends after all. We went over to my bed and laid down, taking about how we had missed each other until I fell asleep.

When I woke up I expected Dally would be gone, but when I opened my eyes I saw Dally was still asleep next to me. I smiled and said "Dally, wake up."

I heard him groan in annoyance, but he got up. I said "Dally, you gotta go out the window and come in the front door, my brothers can't know you stayed the night."

Dally nodded in agreement and said "See ya downstairs Doll." He then exited out the window. I heard a thump and then his footsteps walking away.

I quickly got ready for the day and then went downstairs. I saw Sodapop, Ponyboy, Johnny, and Two-bit were here. Steve and Darry had work. I tapped my foot impatiently, waiting for Dally to come in.

Sodapop noticed my foot and giggled and said "What's got you so worked up Jenny?" I tried to sound indifferent and said "nothing, just waiting for something." Everyone in the room sent me a confused glance, but Sodapop let it drop.

I then heard the door slam, I tried to hide my smile, knowing Dally was here. Johnny seemed to notice and he looked suspicious and slightly annoyed. Dally and I would have to pull him over to the side to talk later.

Dally took a seat by Sodapop and Two-bit, trying not to seem suspicious. Although Johnny saw through it, he knew something was up. I could tell.

Johnny moved closer to me and said in a tone filled with suspicion "So, what's going on?" I sighed and said in an apologetic tone "I have to talk to you." He seemed to know.

His expression was a mix of hurt and anger. Johnny then said in a hurt voice "You still like Dally, don't you?" I nodded and said "I'm really sorry Johnny." Johnny then got up and stormed out of the house.

Dally then came over to me. His expression was unreadable, I didn't have an idea how he felt. I sighed and said in a sad tone "that could've gone better." Dally shook his head and said in a sad tone as well "I don't think it could've, he loved you too."

I then looked at the others in the room, they all looked very confused by the scene they just witnessed. Ponyboy and Two-bit were talking about it, although I only got bits and pieces of the conversation.

I heard Two-bit say "I think she just broke up with Johnny." Ponyboy looked confused and said "why?" Two-bits voice went lower so I could only hear some of what he said next "...loves Dally..."
Then both of their voices went too quiet for me to hear.

I turned back to Dally, he seemed absentminded. I said quietly "what are you thinking about?" Dally said quietly back "I'll tell you tonight." I nodded.

The rest of the day passed without incident. I had kept hoping Johnny would return and by some miracle forgive me, but he never did. As it kept getting later the gang started to leave and I returned to my room to wait to hear what Dally had to tell me.
