Mark was sitting at his desk when Noah rushed into his office, having a major freak out. "What's going on?"
They might be guardian angels, but they can still cry. So Noah's face was red and covered in snot and tears. "Stasia," he choked out before shaking his head.
The elder pulled up the sheet, "she's not on our list of incoming." His head was cocked to the side a bit.
"I saved her but, but I couldn't save the baby."
Mark frowned as he flipped through the pages. "Ah," he whispered in sorrow. "Baby Boy Min. I didn't realize he was hers. I'm sorry, Noah, but there's nothing I can do. The baby is already here."
"Can I," he sobbed, "take care of him? At least until Stasia gets here?"
"That's. Noah," he sighed as he set his clipboard down on the desk. "We aren't supposed to do that. He's a soul that will stay here until he's ready to go back down to Earth. We have caretakers for them. You are a Guardian Angel, not a caretaker."
"I don't care," he glared at the Angel in front of him as he slammed his palms onto the desk. "I can still do my job and watch over my wife's baby. Yoongi deserves that, too; he watched mine with all the love he could possibly give. I owe him the same, at the very least."
"We could get into a lot of trouble for this. I hope you know that. They could take your wings away."
"I'm only here until Stasia comes anyway. Everything I've done has been for her. When she passes, we'll both move on to the other side together. And if her baby still hasn't returned to Earth, he'll be here with us, too."
Mark nodded his head and wrote something down before handing Noah a piece of paper, "Take this to the nursery. Warning, though, if he waits too long to go back, he'll start to grow. He may never want to go back down to Earth; he may choose to stay here with you forever. They can grow attachments. It's why they have special caretakers."
"I'll take care of him for as long as he wants. It doesn't matter to me if it's forever." And with that, Noah was gone. He made his way to the nursery, and it took everything to keep his tears in check.
There were so many souls in there that never made it down to Earth. "I'm here to pick up soul number 61313."
As soon as the baby was placed into his arms, it took corporal form. This is what he would have looked like if he'd been born. "Hello there, little Yunki; I'm going to be your Appa until you decide to go back to Earth."
The baby smiled the most adorable gummy smile Noah had ever seen. Mark wasn't wrong; the baby did grow. He stayed around nine months old for almost a decade. It was difficult, but it was the least he could do for his Stasia. Then, he became the equivalent of a two-year-old overnight.
Noah was so in love with the little boy, who was so sweet and caring. The boy always wanted to snuggle Noah, and sometimes, he even came down with him to check in on Stasia. But Noah always told him how much his parents loved him.
The day that Stasia passed, Noah was a bundle of nerves. Yunki was around 7, to his best guess, and he told him that his Eomma was finally there and if he just waited a bit, he could meet her.
"I have a surprise for you," he told Stasia before taking her hand and walking into the light. Yunki was waiting for them on the other side.
"Eomma," he yelled before he ran to her and wrapped his arms around her.
She had her palms on his cheeks as tears fell down hers. "How?"
"I couldn't save him, and I will never be able to forgive myself for it. But I've had him with me ever since. He knows about you and his Appa Yoongi."
Stasia's heart was going crazy. The little boy in front of her was the spitting image of Yoongi. "You did save him, just not the way you were intending." She looked at Noah with the biggest smile. "Thank you so much."
"It was the least I could do. Yoongi loves Ami like she's his. I couldn't save your baby during the plane crash, but I could at least take care of him here."
"What did you name him?"
"Yunki," Noah smiled. "I wanted to stick with your tradition, but I also wanted him to have a name that is as close as possible to his father's."
She wrapped her arms around the little boy and sobbed into his shoulder. "I'm so happy I got to meet you, Yunki. There wasn't a day that went by that your father and I didn't think of you."
The little boy grinned, big gaps in his teeth from his adult ones coming through. "I know, and Appa Noah said that someday after I meet you and Appa, I can go back to Earth if I want to."
"Your Appa Noah is right," she smiled through the tears. "Once you meet your Appa, you can go to Earth if you want, and we'll watch over you instead."
They didn't have to wait too long; Yoongi passed just a few weeks after Stasia. He was the same Yoongi she fell in love with, with his beautiful gummy smile and cat-like eyes. There were no more wrinkles or grey hairs.
She frowned, "you weren't supposed to be here yet."
"I know, it was too hard. I couldn't stay any longer."
"Well, there's not much we can do about it now. You didn't give me much time with Noah," she joked.
"I would apologize, but I'm not even remotely sorry," he joked with an eye roll.
"Come on, there's two people I want you to meet."
Yoongi was confused. He figured he'd meet Noah, but who was the other person? When they walked into the light, Noah was standing there holding a little boy who looked just like Yoongi. His breath stopped. "Who," he whispered, afraid to wake up from the dream.
Noah held out his hand and shook it, "Thank you for everything you did for Stasia and Ami. This is Yunki, your son."
"Hi, Appa," Yunki yelled happily as he reached out for Yoongi, who was silently crying.
