19: El Perdón

The horn blarred loudly, hurting my head. I'm hungover again. This isn't fun. I was in a room that wasn't mine. I looked around and sat up. Oh no. I fell asleep in Jace's dorm! I look behind me and see him slowly waking up.

"Jace!" I shock him. He saw me and smiled, then got up frantically remembering I slept in his room. Jace and I got up fast, and I snuck out of his dorm and into mine. Sofi and Maya were sitting on Sofi's bed. "Oh, hey! Good morning! How'd you guys sleep?" I've been caught.

"Where were you!? First Nick goes missing, now you!" Maya yelled. I took a deep breath. "I fell asleep," the room went silent. "In Jace's dorm."

"Jace's dorm!? Delilah! Why were you in there!? Wait. Did you guys-" I cut Sofi off. "No! No! Definitely not! We just kissed." "Delilah!" Maya yelled. "Please don't tell anyone. It was a mistake. I didn't mean to fall asleep in Jace's dorm. It just happened." They both sighed.

"Fine, but what are we gonna tell people if they ask where you were?" Sofi asked. "I went for a walk, lost track of time, and came back to the dorm!" They nodded. "Don't scare us like that!" Maya yelled. "Yes, I'm sorry!" "We forgive you. Just don't fall asleep in a boy's dorm ever. Again. Okay?" Maya said grabbed my shoulders. "Yes ma'am." "Wait. If you were in Jace's dorm, and you guys kissed. That means," Maya gasped. "You're dating Jace!" She exclaimed and jumped a little.

I smiled. I'm dating Jace. That's weird to say. "We got together last night after the draft." "Oh my god! You guys are so cute together!" Maya said, grabbing my hands. "That's great! But if he hurts you, you tell us. We'll handle him." Sofi said, coming over to Maya and I. "Well, I'd probably handle him first." We all laughed and got ready for the day. I acted as if it didn't happen. Jace acted the same.

We all sat at a table wearing Mighty Duck clothes. I sat next to Jace, who was using a Mighty Duck hoodie as a neck rest. "How do they already have an elaborate handshake? They've been a team for like eight hours." Maya said. Evan was drafted to Cole's team.

I had my hood up and was looking down at my lap. I was still hungover. Jace nudged my leg with his foot. I looked over at him as he gestured with his head to the team, then looked away. I looked at the team.

"I know why we were all drafted from the bottom, but what's your story?" Sam asked our new teammates. "Scared boy," I said, gesturing my head to the kid. "What's your story?" He spoke up.

"I just suck next to my older brother. He's here, too. The one over there with the biceps only God could carve." AJ's his brother? I didn't expect that.

"I think we'll all familiar with Incredible Hulk over there. The one bro-ing out with my best friend." Nick says, Koob chimed in. "Wow. He's never mentioned you." "Yeah, that sounds about right. He's kinda the- uh- main course in our family, and I'm basically just the side dish. That's how I got my nickname, Fries! Which doesn't hurt my feelings." "Hmm. Side of fries. Damn, that's cold." Maya said.

"I've noticed the beautiful brother." The new girl spoke up. "Me, I do not have a brother. It's just me! Gertie from Moose Lick, Alaska, in the county of Fishhook, where I am the best youth hockey player around! I think? Hard to know. I rarely play with other kids, which is why some say I have a few glaring weaknesses. But when it's just Me V. Me, Gosh, I'm good! I've got moves you've never seen."

This girl seems nervous. "Actually, no one has. So I asked my dad if we could take the boat into town to borrow JoJo Mike's VHS camcorder and put my tape on tape, and then we took the seaplane to the post office, and now I'm here." Cool story. Little weird but cool. "So that is most of the story. Not all of it. I left out some details for time." We went silent for a second.

"And what about our other new teammate?" Koob asked, looking at Jace. "Anything you'd like to say down there, Jace?" Jace spoke.

"What? Like all my hopes and dreams, for how this is gonna be the greatest summer of my life with my new besties? No." I smiled and tried not to laugh. I love his sarcasm! Alex came in.
