I'll Be Better

It's official

First Period felt so long because Ddot had to sit next to Octavia Johnson III and he just wanted to be in second so he could be with DD.

When the bell rang at the end of class he practically jumped out of his seat. He rushed to second took a seat, and waited for DD.

DD walked over and took a seat next to him. 

"In first I had to sit next to that big forehead gorilla, Octavia.(Johnson III) She was staring at me and I told her if her stanky, crusty, big forehead, ugly self kept looking at me , I would smack her." Ddot tells DD who is just laughing uncontrollably.

"You're too much." He says still laughing.

"I'm not even done. Then-" He starts but sees Notti walk up to him. "Hey." He says quietly.

"Stop talking to Octavia (Johnson III) like that. This is your first and last warning." Notti threatens him.

DD steps in front of him. "And you stop talking to Ddot like that." He says getting in his face.

"What are you gonna do if I don't?" Notti asks.

"Then I'm gonna hurt you and that little monkey." DD says pointing at Octavia Johnson III.  

Ddot gets in his way. "DD, stop. Please." Ddot begs him.

This makes DD back off.

"Yeah, you better get him before he get beat." Notti says laughing.

"Ignore him." Ddot says to DD as they both take their seats.

"Can I stay at your house today? I don't wanna be with that zookeeper today." DD says still angry.

"Sure. I'll ask." He says pulling out his phone to text his mom. 

AFTER SCHOOL:

DD goes to Ddot's locker.

Ddot turns to him. "You can come."

"My mom said I could go, but I can't stay the night."

"Alright. Let's go. My mom is picking us up."

When they get in the car, Ddot's mom turns to them and waves. "Hi, DD." 

While she's driving she asks, "So what ya'll gonna do? Like why is DD staying over?"

"He's mad at his brother." Ddot tells her.

"Why?" She asks curious, suspecting it has to do with Ddot.

"He was being rude and tried to fight him."

"Because?" 

"That dumb, ugly girl Octavia.(Johnson III)" Ddot says to his mom.

"Who is she?"

"I don't know. Some random girl who nobody likes. Why you asking me so many questions? Are you the police?"

She rolls her eyes. "I just wanna know. It's my house you guys are tryna be in."

DD and Ddot are talking quietly in the back when Ddot's mom clears her throat. "So, um, DD, if you wanna date my son, there-"

"Mom!" Ddot says his voice breaking.

"Sorry." She says not really meaning it.

When they arrive, DD leaves, but Ddot stays to talk to his mom. He stares at her making her say, " What?"

"How could you say that? You know that I'm in a relationship with somebody else! You keep talking to me about this imaginary relationship that is never going to happen, instead of the one I'm already in. It hurts because I keep telling you this and you just don't care." He says a few tears falling out of his eyes.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't know you felt like this." She genuienly apologizes. She gets out and joins him in the backseat. "I just want what's best for you and to be honest I think it's DD, not Notti." She explains herself.

"I get what you mean. I know you care, but that's not the way you show it. You keep forcing this relationship with DD and rejecting the one I'm in when that's not what I want. Notti makes me happy. I want him, not DD."

She hugs him. "I'm sorry. I'll never do it again." 

"Thank you." He says wiping his face.

She lets go. "You wanna talk about Notti now?"

He look down. "Yeah. He, uhh, he gave me this back." He says holding up the jacket.

She takes it from him. "I remember this jacket! Wait! Is this the one you said he took and promised to keep forever?" 

Ddot nods. 

"What did he say when he gave it to you?" 

"He didn't. DD did. He said Notti told him to give it to me." He says his voice cracking.

"Does that mean?" She asks looking at him with her eyes wide.

 "I don't know, but I think so." He says starting to cry.

"Honey, I'm so sorry." She says hugging him. "Let's go inside. There's ice cream in the freezer." 

They get out of the car and into the house. DD is standing at the door waiting for Ddot.

"Hey, I was worried." DD says when he sees Ddot's face. He hugs him. "Sunset, Ddot. Think of the sunset."

This gave Ddot some hope.

"Thank you." Ddot says hugging him back.

"Here." Ddot's mom said handing him a tub of ice cream. 

"Thanks." He says pulling away from DD. "Imma go to my room." He tells her.

DD folllows him until Ddot's mom stops him. "DD, you're a good friend. Keep doing what you're doing. It helps him."

He nods and goes to Ddot's room. "Your mom is really nice."

"Yeah, she likes you a lot."

"Really?"

"Yeah, that's why she said that in the car earlier. But um, speaking of earlier, did Notti say anything like that he's breaking up with me?" Ddot was still holding onto that hope.

"Ummm. Ddot, I'm so sorry for not telling you this earlier, but a few days ago Notti said he doesn't want you anymore. I wasn't sure if he meant it and you were so sad. I just couldn't. I'm sorry." DD profusely apologizes.

Ddot falls to the floor and just breaks down. "Why?" He shouts "Why?"  You could tell it was out of pain and heartbreak.  All his hope was shattered with those words. The sunset couldn't help him now.

DD goes down on his knees to be at Ddot's level. "Ddot, I'm sorry. I didn't think he meant it." He hugs him as he sobs. 

Ddot mom runs in. "What happened?" 

"Notti broke up with him." 

"So it's official. Darrian. It's okay. We're here for you." She says going down to his level and also hugging him.
