You and Aiah ventured to the mall, Ling-ling nestled comfortably in Aiah's designer Louis Vuitton bag – a far cry from the cardboard box she called home just yesterday. The absence of a proper leash had led to this rather unorthodox solution, but it seemed to work for the little feline.
As you entered Pet Express, a symphony of sounds assaulted your senses – playful barks intermingled with high-pitched meows, creating a lively cacophony. The store itself was a haven for all creatures great and small. A designated pet playground in the corner buzzed with activity as furry friends frolicked and socialized. You couldn't help but notice Ling-ling's pupils dilate as she observed the scene, a loud meow escaping her tiny throat. Aiah exchanged a knowing glance with you, both of you stifling a chuckle.
"Ling-ling seems to be enjoying this place," you remarked, amusement dancing in your eyes.
A friendly staff member approached you and Aiah, a welcoming smile gracing her lips. "Hello! Good afternoon," she greeted.
You returned her smile, gently extracting Ling-ling from the confines of the Louis Vuitton bag. "We were hoping to have her checked up and get her rabies shot," you explained.
The staff member nodded in understanding. Taking Ling-ling from your arms, she began guiding you towards the vet section of the store. However, before you could follow, Aiah's hand clamped firmly around your arm.
"Wag mo naman masiyado ngitian si Ate," she teased, a playful glint in her narrowed eyes.
You couldn't help but laugh at her possessiveness. "Are you jealous, Mariah?" you quipped, playfully poking fun at her.
Aiah's cheeks flushed a light pink. "Kanina, it was 'love,'" she pouted, "and now it's Mariah?"
You leaned in and brushed a quick kiss on her cheek. "Sorry, love," you murmured, your voice low and husky. "But don't worry, you've got my undivided attention. Why don't you browse the pet supplies while I get Ling checked up? I'm sure you can find some amazing stuff for our little furball."
Aiah's playful frown softened, replaced by a satisfied smile. "Alright, fine," she conceded. "But keep it short in there, okay? I don't want to be here alone with all these adorable puppies baka magkaroon agad ng kapatid si Ling."
You chuckled, squeezing her hand reassuringly before following the staff member towards the vet section.
The vet section buzzed with activity. A short line snaked its way towards the examination room, each person patiently waiting with their furry companions. You and Ling-ling settled in at the back of the line, patiently waiting your turn.
Just as you were about to enter the examination room – third in line – Aiah arrived with a triumphant grin plastered across her face. Five bulging paper bags swung precariously in her arms, creating a comical sight.
"Wow, Aiah," you exclaimed, a mixture of amusement and disbelief in your voice. "That's quite a haul for Ling-ling."
Aiah plopped down beside you, the paper bags landing with a soft thud on the floor. With a mischievous twinkle in her eye, she reached into one of the bags and retrieved Ling-ling, who had been the object of her shopping spree.
"You're absolutely right," she declared, her voice laced with playful smugness. "Ling-ling should definitely thank you...for letting me borrow your credit card."
Your jaw dropped slightly. "Wait, you used my card?" you stammered, your mind racing. How had she managed to bypass the security code?
Aiah's playful smile widened. "Maybe you should've considered changing it after I saw you punch it in that one time at the convenience store," she teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
You groaned internally, remembering the one time you had carelessly entered your PIN in front of Aiah while buying a late-night snack.
Despite your initial shock, a warmth bloomed in your chest. Aiah's impulsiveness, while occasionally causing a minor headache, stemmed from her genuine love for you and Ling-ling. The thought of her excitedly picking out pet supplies filled you with a tenderness you hadn't expected.
Shaking your head with a mixture of exasperation and affection, you managed a weak smile. "Alright, alright," you conceded. "Just promise me you didn't empty the entire store."
Aiah winked playfully. "No promises," she chirped, her attention already shifting to the examination room door, which had just opened. "Now come on, let's get our little furball checked out!"
With Ling-ling nestled securely in Aiah's arms, you both entered the examination room, the playful banter and the shared responsibility for Ling-ling's well-being.
The veterinarian, a kind-faced man with gentle eyes, greeted you and Aiah with a warm smile. "Good afternoon!" he boomed, his voice radiating a sense of calm professionalism.
"Good afternoon, Doc," Aiah replied, her voice laced with nervous excitement as she carefully handed Ling-ling over to him.
"And what's the name of this little one?" the veterinarian inquired, his gaze softening as he cradled the tiny feline in his hands.
"Ling-ling po," you replied, taking a seat beside Aiah on the examination table. Po is a Tagalog term used to show respect to someone older or in a position of authority.
The veterinarian carefully examined Ling-ling, his trained eyes scanning for any signs of illness or injury. He gently lifted the cat, checking its fur and inspecting its tiny body with meticulous precision.
"Seems like he's a healthy little one," he finally declared, a reassuring smile spreading across his face.
"Wait, 'he'?" you echoed, a hint of confusion coloring your voice. "Doc," you continued, "we thought Ling-ling was a girl."
The veterinarian chuckled softly. "Well, I'm afraid you might be mistaken," he said gently. "Based on my examination, Ling-ling appears to be a male."
Aiah's eyes widened in surprise. "Hala!" she exclaimed, a playful pout forming on her lips. "We named him Ling-ling! Dapat pala Long-long?"
You couldn't help but burst into laughter at her realization. The image of a disgruntled Aiah lamenting the chosen name was simply too comical.
"Don't worry," the veterinarian reassured her with a chuckle, "Ling-ling is a perfectly fine name, even for a male cat. In fact, it's quite adorable."
A sense of relief washed over Aiah, followed by a wave of amusement. "Alright, Ling-ling it is then," she conceded, a playful smile replacing her initial pout. "But you better grow up to be a strong and handsome cat, Ling-ling, just to fit your slightly misleading name!"
Leaving the vet's office, you and Aiah piled back into the car, Ling-ling nestled comfortably in Aiah's arms. You glanced at the five bulging paper bags from Pet Express occupying the backseat, a playful smile tugging at your lips. Aiah's shopping spree had clearly been epic.
As you reached BINI's apartment complex and stepped out of the car, Aiah scooped Ling-ling up while you wrestled with the overflowing paper bags. Shaking your head in mock disapproval, you followed Aiah towards the elevator.
The elevator doors slid shut, momentarily shrouding you and Aiah in privacy. However, your brief moment of peace was shattered as the doors abruptly reopened, revealing an unexpected visitor.
Standing there, a picture of polished charm, was Joao. A jolt of surprise shot through you, quickly followed by a surge of possessiveness. You watched, jaw clenched, as Joao approached Aiah, his smile widening in greeting.
"Oh, hi Aiah," he boomed, his voice radiating too much-friendliness. "I was just about to visit you."
Before Aiah could respond, Joao leaned in and planted a kiss on her cheek. The casual gesture felt like a punch to the gut, a violation of the unspoken territory that now existed between you and Aiah. You couldn't help but feel a flicker of anger ignite within you. No one, especially not some PR-manufactured boyfriend, had the right to touch Aiah so intimately, especially not in front of your son.
Aiah, for her part, looked utterly flustered. Her cheeks flushed a deep crimson, and you could practically see the gears turning in her mind as she scrambled to formulate a response.
