Kiel had been with you and Aiah for the past four days. Tonight was Christmas Eve, and despite the cheery atmosphere, a pang of concern tugged at your heart. Unlike most children, Kiel didn't seem to miss spending the holiday with his father. It was as if this had become a normal thing for the kid.
"Kiel, did you celebrate Christmas with your dad last year?" you couldn't help but ask, your voice gentle as you watched him happily devour his ice cream.
He shook his head silently, his eyes wide and innocent. You exchanged a worried glance with Aiah. The possibility of Ezra neglecting his son gnawed at you.
Aiah, sensing your concern, knelt down beside Kiel and began telling him a story, her voice a soothing balm. You appreciated her quick thinking, diverting Kiel's attention while the weight of the situation settled on you.
Prying wouldn't help, but your cousin's constant holiday work schedule seemed suspicious. You decided to talk to your other cousins tomorrow, hoping to get a clearer picture.
With a heavy heart, you retreated to your office space, seeking solace in music. You and your bandmates had been planning your biggest comeback for months, and channeling your energy into songwriting helped you temporarily escape the turmoil within.
Hours melted away as you poured your emotions into the lyrics. When you finally emerged from your creative zone, a sense of calm had settled over you. You walked towards the living room, where you'd left Aiah and Kiel.
A peaceful scene greeted you. Kiel had drifted asleep, curled up comfortably on Aiah's lap as she read a book. You leaned down and softly kissed Aiah's cheek from behind, your gesture filled with thankful for her presence.
"Anong handa natin tonight?" you asked, your voice a gentle murmur.
Aiah patted the space beside her, and you settled onto the couch, pulling her close. "We could order na lang if you'd like," she suggested.
You shook your head with a smile. "Dapat luto ang handa sa christmas baliw."
"Magbake kaya tayo ng lasagna?" you suggested.
"Lasagna lang?" she asked with a teasing glint on her eyes.
"Tatlo lang naman tayo. What else do you want?" you asked back.
Aiah leaned in and whispered flirtatiously, "Maybe just you for dessert." You chuckled, feeling a warmth spread through you at her words.
"Baliw ka may bata."
Suddenly, her eyes widened. "Oh no, babe! We forgot Kiel's present!" she whispered.
Your eyes widened in realization. How could you have forgotten? Quickly, you pulled out your phone and sent a message to Stacey.
YOU: Staks, u busy?
You typed, your cousin quickly respond.
Stacey: Paalis pa lang condo, why?
