You peek open one eye, a fragment of sunlight sneaking in the window and landing a warm kiss on your left cheek. You instinctively turn towards the noise, a sleepy smile blooming on your face as the scene unfolds before you. Aiah sits smack dab on the other side of the bedroom, bathed in the golden light streaming through the big window of your new house. Boxes, still bulging with the ghosts of your old life, are scattered around her like colorful dominoes after a playful topple. A boxed collection of furniture looks strategically placed to avoid any potential tipping accidents more like an American Ninja Warrior obstacle course than a bedroom.

Aiah, perched on a tiny stool like Hermione Granger, has already begun her work. Her brow furrows in fierce concentration as she wields her paintbrush like her magic wand, dabbing bold pops of color onto the canvas in front of her.

You, on the other hand, were feeling a buzz of energy in the morning. You woke up pretty good today, seeing Aiah painting first thing in the morning. Ling-ling picked up on your energy instantly, his tail swishing a happy metronome against your leg. You picked him up and he quickly snuggled into your arms. A naughty glint, like a rogue sunbeam, danced in your eyes. You planned on taking your girlfriend's attention from her canvas.

"Wow! Ang ganda niyan, ha?"

Aiah turned to you. When she saw you and Ling-Ling, she gave you a smile and put her brush down. She opened her arms, asking for a hug.

You went to her and gave her a hug.

"Good morning," she said, giving you a peck on your cheek.

"Morning," you greeted back. Then she turned her attention back to her canvas.

"May niluto akong breakfast. Kain ka na," she said as she added a yellow shadow to her canvas. You rolled your eyes. "She's really in serious with her painting," you mumbled.

You poke Aiah on her shoulder, "What are you painting?" You asked kneeling infront of her beside her canvas. She didn't looked at you, still focused on what she's doing. Ling-ling let out an adorable meow rippling from his throat like purring thunder and you tried to make a cute face and to get her attention. Aiah still tried to maintain her laser focus on the canvas, but a traitorous smile tugged at the corner of her lips, threatening to erupt into full-blown laughter.

She finally looked at you, "Just trying to capture the city's spirit," she mumbled, flicking a glance at the cityscape slowly coming to life on the canvas.

"City's spirit ba?" You stood in front of her, using Ling-ling as a fluffy microphone. "Isn't the city's spirit more like this?" You launched into an off-key rendition of a one of the popular BINI song, swaying your hips and bouncing Ling-ling along with the rhythm.

Mahiwagang salamin kailan ba niya aaminin

You put down Ling-ling and tried to do the choreography of Salamin, Salamin. You start with the iconic "mirror" move, you extend one arm out with an open palm, then quickly switch arms, creating a mirroring effect while combining it with hip shakes and footwork transitions.

"Come on, Ling. Dance with me." You said when you looked at Ling-ling and he's just staring at you like a crazy person who just escaped from mental institution. He let out a loud meow and run away from you.

Aiah's resolve finally crumbled. Laughter erupted from her lips, and she dropped her brush with a flourish. "Okay, okay" she conceded, throwing her hands up in mock surrender. "You win, you win"
