PROLOGUE

"DREW."

"Glad you came," he said and tapped his shoulder.

"I thought, there's an emergency. Only to find out that you just want some drinks," Ragian said and shook his head.

Mahina siyang natawa. Ragian is his friend and a doctor.

"It's my treat, come on," natatawang sabi niya.

He let out a short laugh. Ragian knew just by looking at him.

"My mom is getting married soon," he said and just shrugged his shoulders.

"And you're against it? I thought you already met your mom's boyfriend? And you told me that he's a good man. Sabi mo nga, as long as the man treats your mom well, you'll accept him," komento ni Ragian.

"I know." Mahina siyang napabuntong-hininga.

"I met him already a few times. I saw how he treats my mom well.  But...marrying each other? I don't think I can accept it. I don't want her to replace my dad in her heart. My father died a long time ago and it's time for us to move. But I can't yet. Hindi ko pa kayang tanggapin. Hindi pa ako handa." Awtomatiko siyang sumimsim ng alak.

"You can talk to your mom about it," Ragian said.

"At ano ang sasabihin ko? Tell her that I don't want her to get married to another man? She was so broken when my father died. And the worst is...I was the reason why he died. She never blames me for my father's death. But I've been blaming myself for years now. I don't want her to be sad and broken once again because of me." Mahina siyang natawa.

Ragian sighed.

"Drew, it's still better to talk to your mom. Communication, dude. Tell her how you feel. Be honest. Be vocal to her. Come on, it's your mom, okay?

He just smiled. Napailing na lamang siya. Ragian always knew what to say. This friend of his has always been honest and straightforward.

"Thanks, dude. Let's just drink." Naiiling na sabi niya.

"Dalawang bote lang ako tonight. I still have duty tomorrow. Unless, you'll pay for me.

"Alright. Two bottles, then," natatawang sabi niya.
