Heart To Heart
———
AS THEY SAT in comfortable silence, Haneul's gaze drifted over to the guitar resting on Heeseung's lap. A wave of recognition washed over her, as she realised it was the same guitar she had gifted him for his birthday five years ago. She turned to Heeseung and asked, "Is that...?"
Heeseung met her gaze with a soft smile, understanding her unspoken question. "Yeah, it's the same one," he replied, his voice tinged with nostalgia.
Haneul's heart swelled with emotion as she took in the familiar instrument, its polished wood and delicate strings stirring memories of their shared past. She remembered the excitement on Heeseung's face when he unwrapped the gift, his eyes lighting up with joy at the sight of the guitar.
With a bittersweet smile, Haneul turned to Heeseung, her eyes shining with emotion. "I can't believe you kept it." she murmured.
"Of course I kept it," he replied, a soft smile playing on his lips. "It has always been special to me, just like our friendship."
Haneul's breath caught in her throat as she felt a rush of emotions flood through her. It was as if Heeseung's words had opened a floodgate of memories, reminding her of the closeness they once shared and the distance that had grown between them over the years.
She looked down, her voice barely above a whisper as she replied, "Yeah... just like our friendship."
Heeseung noticed her sudden change in demeanour and the way she avoided his gaze. Concern flickered across his face, and he quickly apologised. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."
Haneul looked up, meeting his eyes with a soft, reassuring smile. "It's okay, Hee. It's just.... a lot to take in, I guess."
An awkward silence enrobed them, the night thick with unspoken thoughts and emotions. Heeseung shifted slightly, searching for a way to break the tension that has settled between them.
After a moment, he cleared his throat and tried to lighten the mood. "How's organising the book fair going?"
Haneul's eyes lit up at the mention. "It's going well actually. It is a lot of work but it's also incredibly rewarding," she said, her excitement palpable. "We've lined up some great authors for signing, planned several interesting workshops, and there'll be stalls from local bookstores. I'm really looking forward to it."
"That's amazing." Heeseung replied, genuinely impressed. "Maybe I could stop by and check it out."
Haneul's eyes brightened at the thought. "You should! It's going to be a great event, I just know it."
