Anticipation
———
TWO MONTHS had passed and Haneul found herself drawn closer and closer to Heeseung. The more time they spent together, the more undeniable her feelings became. She noticed the way her heart skipped a beat whenever he smiled at her, the comfort she felt in his presence, and the way her thoughts often drifted to him during quiet moments.
Heeseung's kindness, his sense of humor, and his unwavering support had created a profound impact on her. Despite her initial reservations, she realized she was falling for him, and it filled her with both excitement and a hint of fear.
It was Haneul's birthday, a crisp autumn day with a bright blue sky. Heeseung was in his room, preparing a special gift for her. The room was a testament to his creativity: canvases with half-finished paintings leaned against the walls, and his guitar rested in a corner. On his desk, amidst the clutter of art supplies and music sheets, was a beautifully wrapped box.
Inside was a book she had been eyeing for weeks at the local bookstore, a rare edition of her favourite novel. He had noticed her admiring it during one of their visits and knew it would be the perfect gift. Alongside the book was a delicate silver necklace with a tiny heart-shaped locket. He had spent weeks planning and crafting the gift, wanting it to be perfect.
Heeseung sat on his bed, his guitar in hand, strumming absentmindedly as he thought about the day ahead. He had planned a small celebration, just the two of them, to make her feel special. A knock on his door broke his thoughts, and Sunghoon poked his head in.
"Hey, you ready for Haneul's birthday?" Sunghoon asked, a teasing smile on his face.
"Yeah, just putting the finishing touches on her gift," Heeseung replied, setting his guitar aside and picking up the wrapped box. "What do you think?"
Sunghoon stepped in, taking a look at the neatly wrapped present. "Looks good, man. She's gonna love it. You've put a lot of thought into this."
"I hope so," Heeseung said, a hint of nervousness in his voice. "I just want her to have a great day."
"She will," Sunghoon assured him. "Especially with you making it special. So, what's the plan?"
"We're going to have dinner at her favorite restaurant, and finish it off with a walk in the park," Heeseung explained.
"Sounds perfect," Sunghoon said with a nod. "You've really got it bad for her, huh?"
Heeseung chuckled, a bit sheepish. "Yeah, I guess I do."
With a final look at the gift, Heeseung took a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and anticipation. He wanted this day to be memorable for Haneul, and he hoped his feelings would shine through in every moment they spent together.
