Heartwarming

THE NEXT DAY, Haneul woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside her window, signalling the start of a new day. As she stretched and rubbed the sleep from her eyes, she felt a sense of calm wash over her.
Stretching her arms above her head, she threw back the covers and swung her legs over the side of the bed, feeling the cool wood floor beneath her feet. With a yawn and a smile, she padded over to the bathroom, anticipation building for the soothing ritual that awaits her.
Turning on the faucet, Haneul allowed the warm water cascade over her body, washing away the remnants of sleep and leaving her feeling refreshed. After a few blissful moments, Haneul reluctantly stepped out of the shower and dried herself with a fluffy towel.
She then proceeded with her morning routine, which included brushing her teeth, moisturising her skin, and styling her hair. With practiced movements, she applied a light layer of makeup, opting for a natural look that enhances her features without appearing too heavy.
Finally, she selected an outfit for the day, choosing clothes that strikes a balance between comfort and style. She opted for a cozy knitted sweater in a soft shade of blue, paired with dark jeans that hugged her curves just right. To combat the crisp morning air, she layered a lightweight scarf around her neck, its pastel hues adding a pop of colour to her ensemble.
With her hair pulled back in a loose ponytail and a swipe of lip balm to keep her lips hydrated, she headed downstairs for breakfast, descending the staircase with a lightness in her step. The wooden floorboards creaked softly beneath her feet as she made her way to the kitchen, where the enticing aroma of pancakes filled the air.
Entering the cozy kitchen, Haneul found her mother standing at the stove, flipping pancakes with practiced ease. She smiled warmly at Haneul's arrival, her eyes sparkling with affection.
"Morning, sweetheart. How did you sleep?" she said, as she slid a plate of pancakes across the table.
Haneul returned her mother's smile and took a sip of orange juice. "Like a rock," she replied. "Thanks for making breakfast, mom"
Her mother chuckled. "Of course, dear. Anything for my favourite daughter."
Haneul laughed. "Only daughter," she teased, reaching for the syrup.
Her mother's expression turned thoughtful. "So, how are you feeling about seeing Heeseung again? I'm sure you've missed each other."
Haneul paused, considering her response. "It's nice...," she began. "But also a bit overwhelming, I guess. I'm not sure where things stand between us after all this time."
Her mother nodded in understanding. "Change can be daunting, especially when it involves someone from your past. But remember, you're not alone in this. You and Heeseung have a bond that's stood the test of time."
"Take these pancakes for example. Friendships are like pancakes, they take time to cook to perfection. They require patience, care, and sometimes a few flips along the way. Just trust in the natural ebb and flow of your relationship, and everything else will fall into place."
Haneul smiled gratefully, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. "Thanks, mom. You always know just what to say."
Her mother reached across the table and squeezed her hand gently. "That's what mothers are for, sweetheart. Now, eat up. You've got a big day ahead of you at the library."
———
After finishing her breakfast and bidding her mother farewell, Haneul headed out the door, her spirits buoyed by the delicious meal and the warmth of her family's love. She took a deep breath of the crisp morning air, feeling invigorated and ready to tackle the day ahead.
As she walked down the tree-lined street towards the library, Haneul took in the sights and sounds of her neighbourhood. The sun casted a soft glow over the bustling town, illuminating the colourful storefronts and casted long shadows on the sidewalk.
Haneul adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder, feeling a sense of purpose and determination coursing through her veins. With each step she took, she felt a renewed sense of energy and excitement building within her, fuelled by the anticipation of what the day at the library holds.
As she approached the familiar brick facade of the library, Haneul felt a sense of calm wash over her. The imposing doors stood open, welcoming her inside to a world of knowledge and possibility. With a confident stride, Haneul crossed the threshold and stepped into the hushed sanctuary of the library, ready to immerse herself in the world of books and literature once more.
