Picnic
———
Haneul sat CROSS-LEGGED, reaching for a grape from the container. "Okay," she said between bites, "serious question — why are these grapes so fancy? Did you go grape hunting or something?"
Heeseung, leaning back on his hands beside her, chuckled. "I may have made a dramatic last-minute grocery store run and interrogated the fruit section. The cashier called them 'grapes of the gods.' I couldn't walk away after that."
Haneul laughed, tossing a grape at him which he barely caught. "You're ridiculous."
"And yet, you're still here." He grinned.
"Only for the grapes," she teased.
"Oh, good. I was worried it was for my charming personality or good looks."
Haneul raised a brow. "That would be asking a lot."
Heeseung gasped in mock offense. "Harsh."
"Did you raid an entire bakery or...?"
Heeseung smirked. "No. Just about 70% of it."
She laughed, reaching for a sandwich. "I have to say, I'm genuinely impressed. This is kind of adorable."
"I accept that as a compliment," he said proudly, then added, "but don't get used to it. I have a reputation to maintain."
Haneul raised a brow. "Right. Mysterious, brooding musician who bakes strawberry cake and sets up picnics by lakes. Very intimidating."
Heeseung held up a fork like it was a weapon. "Don't test me."
"Oh no," she gasped dramatically, "a dessert fork! My one weakness."
They both laughed, the sound blending in with the quiet ripple of the nearby lake.
A comfortable silence settled for a moment as they both enjoyed the food. Then Haneul, nudging him lightly with her shoulder, said, "So, are you gonna tell me why you've been smiling like a goof all afternoon?"
Heeseung shrugged, trying to act nonchalant. "Maybe I'm just proud of my grape-picking skills."
"Uh-huh," she teased. "I think someone's just really pleased he got to surprise me."
He looked at her with a small smile. "Okay, maybe a little. I thought you deserved something nice."
Her teasing faded, just a little. "Thank you. This really is nice."
