Motel

Damon

The next morning, after the tension of Elena being rejected advance lingered like a shadow, a knock on the door shattered the uneasy silence. "Elena?" Jeremy's voice called out, his tone expectant as he entered the room, his face lit up with excitement. "Rose found Mary. She lives in Kansas," Jeremy announced, his words a welcome relief from the lingering awkwardness.

With renewed purpose, we wasted no time and set off immediately, the promise of answers propelling us forward as we drove to Kansas City.

"This is the address," Jeremy said, his voice filled with anticipation as he handed me a slip of paper.

"Jeremy, you stay right here," Elena commanded, her tone firm and authoritative.

"Why?" Jeremy questioned, his curiosity evident in his voice.

"Don't be a dick. Listen to your sister," I interjected sarcastically, a hint of impatience creeping into my tone as I gestured for him to comply. With a resigned sigh, Jeremy retreated to the car.

"Thank you," I called after him before turning to Elena. "Come on, Elena," I urged, determination fueling my steps as we made our way towards the old, decrepit house. The moment we crossed the threshold, the floorboards groaned beneath our weight, the eerie sound echoing through the empty halls. With only our flashlights to guide us, we ventured further into the dimly lit interior, the air heavy with the scent of musty books and decay.

"Whoa. Like 'vampire hoarders'," I remarked, my voice laced with a mixture of fascination and apprehension as we surveyed the cluttered surroundings.

"Who is this Mary person?" Elena inquired, her voice tinged with curiosity as we navigated the eerie corridors of the house.

"Scary Mary," I replied, my words laden with a sense of foreboding as memories of the infamous figure flooded my mind.

"She is really old and super creepy," I added, my tone reflecting the unease that settled over us like a suffocating blanket.

Suddenly, a crashing sound shattered the silence, prompting us to investigate. As we entered another room, a chilling sight greeted us: Scary Mary, dead and hanging on the wall, a victim of a brutal attack with a baseball bat.

"Mary," I murmured, a mix of shock and sorrow lacing my voice as I took in the gruesome scene before us.

We heard a voice, "quite contrary," I recounted, my senses on high alert as I scanned the dimly lit room. Suddenly, the darkness was pierced by the flicker of lights, and there he was—Kol, wielding a steel baseball bat with an air of menace.

"Shame about Mary. She used to be a blast. I don't quite know what happened," Kol mused, his words dripping with casual indifference. "Yeah, I fear all the time she spent with my family might have ruined her. She was a bit of an Original groupie."

As Kol rose from his seat, his presence loomed over us like a dark cloud, casting a sinister shadow across the room. The weight of his words hung heavy in the air, each syllable laden with an ominous undertone that sent a shiver down my spine.

"And were you her favorite?" Elena's voice cut through the tension, her tone laced with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.

"You mean, did I turn her?" Kol retorted, a sly smirk playing on his lips. "I think I did. But, no, wait. Maybe it was Rebekah, and there was also a Klaus period. Well, she was quite close with Isabella as well. And let's not forget the Elijah affair."

The casualness with which Kol spoke of his family's entanglements sent a chill down my spine, the weight of their complicated history looming over us like a dark specter.

"I spoke to my brother, I know you're trying to find out who you descended from. Now you never will," Kol declared, his words dripping with malicious intent.

"So... where did we leave off?" Kol's question hung in the air, a sinister reminder of the dangers that lurked in the shadows of our past.

He struck my knee with brutal force, sending a searing pain coursing through my body. I collapsed to the ground, the impact reverberating through my bones.

"Ahhh!! Elena, get out of here!" I cried out, my voice strained with agony as I struggled to rise. But as Elena made a desperate dash for the exit, Kol materialized before her like a malevolent apparition, his presence ominous and foreboding.

"According to my brother, you're off-limits. Please don't test me," Kol warned Elena, his words dripping with menace as he callously shoved Elena aside. Her anguished scream pierced the air, echoing off the walls of the desolate room.

With a surge of adrenaline, I staggered to my feet and lunged towards Kol, my hands clenching around his neck in a desperate attempt to protect Elena.

"Don't touch her," I growled through gritted teeth, my voice a fierce whisper that betrayed the rage simmering beneath the surface.

Kol's boot connected with my side, sending a jolt of searing pain coursing through my body as I crumpled to the ground, gasping for breath. The room spun around me, the edges of my vision blurring as Kol loomed over me like a malevolent specter.

"Aww, dear. I seem to have hit a nerve," Kol taunted, his voice dripping with cruel amusement as he surveyed the scene before him.

But despite the agony wracking my body, my thoughts remained fixated on Elena, her safety my foremost concern. She was my brother's girl, my friend, and I couldn't bear the thought of her suffering at Kol's hands.

"Relax, darling. I just want us to be even," Kol continued, his words laced with a sinister edge that sent shivers down my spine.

As his steel bat descended upon me again and again, each blow landing with bone-crushing force, Kol's voice cut through the darkness like a razor-sharp blade. "You snapped my neck, you killed my brother, and then you humiliated me," he seethed, his rage palpable in every word.

With each strike, I felt the weight of his vengeance crashing down upon me, a relentless barrage that left me battered and broken. And as the darkness closed in around me, I realized that there would be no escape from Kol's twisted retribution. We were, in his eyes, finally and irreversibly, even.
