Roman knocked on his parents' door. It was around 7:30 in the morning and Roman just wanted to crawl back in bed. Queen Eleanor opened the door and gave her son a hug. "Good morning, dear," Roman smiled at his mother and walked into the room. King Arthur was sitting at a desk in the back of the room. Roman looked back at his mother who smiled and nodded. "Father?" Roman spoke, his father turned around. "You wished to see me?" Roman took a seat on the bed and faced his father."Roman, you have to marry." Roman heard his mother sigh. "You can't rule a kingdom alone. Do you know how bad it looks to have a young, solo king?" Arthur said, "You'll be 20 in 3 months, son, you're taking the throne in 6 months, you need to be wed. You should have already been wed." Roman listened to his father complain. "I understand, father, but you don't understand, you and mother had known each other and you were in love before it was time for you to find a suitor. You married for love, father, it was just happenstance that mother was also a royal." Arthur looked at Roman, "Are you saying you love a non royal?"
Roman shook his head, "Father, I don't love anyone. I do not want to be wedded without being in love. How is it fair to me that I have to marry a woman I do not feel for?" Roman expressed. Arthur scoffed, "Life isn't fair, Roman. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices." Roman stared at his father. He looked back at his mother who had been watching. "Sacrifices? sacrifices? Really? That isn't a sacrifice, father, that is living in misery." Eleanor walked up and laid her hand on Roman's shoulder.
"He's right, love, he shouldn't have to marry a girl he just met. What if they don't fit together? Our kingdom will fall. Our kingdom is what it is because we work so well together. Roman will be a great king, but he will be even better with someone he loves by his side." Roman smiled at his mother and laid his hand on top of hers. "Arthur do not think as a king. Think as a father. Do you want your son to live unhappily?" Arthur sighed heavily and shook his head. "No, Eleanor, you know I don't. But I can't think as a father at the moment. I have to think as a king." Eleanor walked up to her husband. "Being a father should always come first." And with that Eleanor left the room with a huff.
Roman looked at his father who was staring at him. "Then tell me Roman, what is wrong with the princesses I've introduced to you." Roman shook his head. "Father," Roman sighed, he tried to stay leveled headed. "Have you not listened to anything I've said? I don't know those women. I'm sure they're all lovely, but I don't know them. I don't know their interests, their personalities, their quirks or anything. How do you expect me to marry and love someone I know nothing about. As mother said, your kingdom will fall."
Arthur stared at his eldest. He studied the face that looked so much like his own. Did he want his son unhappy? "Roman, this is your kingdom too. You must make it proud." Roman shook his head, "No, father, this is your kingdom. I just happened to be misfortune enough to be next in line." Roman stood and turned on his heel and headed for the door. "Roman!" He ignored his father and left the room.
He didn't go to his room, he went to Remus'. He didn't bother knocking and went straight in. "Roman?" Remus asked sitting up. Roman laid down on Remus bed and sighed. "What happened, Ro?" Roman sighed shakily, "Other than disappointing our father?" Remus nodded sadly and laid down next to Roman. "Oh, Ro, it's okay. Y'know how dad is. He'll be over it soon, mom will knock some sense into him. What did he do?" Remus wasn't good at comforting, it wasn't his strong suit. "He wants me to marry. But he won't think about what I want, he only thinks of the kingdom." Remus listened to Roman as he continued to rant. Remus gave his advice here and there.
Remus didn't like when his brother was upset. Roman had it harder than him, their father was never into Remus about anything. He seen Remus as a lost cause. And Roman was to take the throne so Roman had to be perfect. Remus felt bad for Roman, but he didn't know what to do. He wanted to help him but didn't know how.
Eventually, Roman left Remus' room and went back to his. He nodded to Remy, "Virgil in his or my room?" He asked, he liked Virgil but he wanted to be alone. "His, sir, do you need him?" Roman shook his head. "No, I want to be alone." Remy nodded and watched Roman go in his room.

"Eleanor, you don't understand." Arthur begged to his wife. "I understand fine, Arthur. You need to start thinking of your son. I'm putting my foot down. Roman is not getting married, not until he's in love and wants to be wed. You are a father first, then a king. Act like it."
