People gathered in the front of the castle. Hundreds upon hundreds gathered outside. Decorations were all over the town: red, gold, white, and silver covered the streets. Everyone was dressed nicely, they were speaking quietly amongst themselves.Roman stood at the big doors, he was wearing a beautiful suit. He was scared to say the least, he stood fidgety. He jumped as a hand was laid on his back. "Ro?" Virgil asked quietly, "Are you okay?" Roman sighed and took Virgil into his arms, his arms wrapping around Virgil's waist. "No, baby, I'm not." Roman confessed. Virgil gave a confused look, he reached up to fix Roman's suit. "What's wrong, princey?" Roman smiled some at the old nickname, "I don't know, It's just- this! This whole thing! What if- I don't even know." Roman sighed and leaned down to lay his head on top of Virgil's shoulder. Virgil petted his hair, "I get it, Ro. I do, but listen to me," Roman looked up from his shoulder. "You are going to be a great king. You're going to do so wonderful. I'm so proud of you." Roman smiled and kissed Virgil deeply, "God, you're so amazing." Virgil smiled some and rolled his eyes. "Now, c'mon, princey, or should I say kingy?" Roman laughed softly and nodded, "I guess I am kingy now, huh?" Virgil smiled and nodded. Virgil kissed Roman again, Roman took his hand and squeezed it. Roman lead him outside.
The crowd erupted into applause. Roman dropped Virgil's hand as he greeted his parents, Remus, Patton, and Logan. The king and queen hugged him tightly before he moved to stand in front of the crowd. Logan walked down the stairs to a podium with a microphone.
"Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone else in between." He began, "We are gathered here to watch Prince Roman become king." There was more applause from the crowd. "Today, King Arthur will take off his crown for the last time. And from here on out, Prince Roman will wearing it. While this is a sad moment to say goodbye to our beloved king, we have many more days with a new generation. I have full confidence Prince Roman will become an incredible leader, I must say I taught him well," The crowd laughed as Logan straightened his glasses with a smile. "Today is a big day, for all of us, and it is an honor to be able to stand here before you today and it's an honor to be here for Prince Roman's crowning."
Logan fixed the microphone to look up at Roman. "Roman," He spoke informally, "I want to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you for always treating as a person even though you are so much more important than I. You have always been one of my best friends and I appreciate all our moments together. While we've had multiple disagreements and times where I have definitely wanted to figuratively kill you," Roman smiled and laughed some, nodding. "I have full confidence you will lead wonderfully. Especially with the help you have beside you," He winked looking up at Virgil with a smile.
He turned back to the crowd, "I will stop talking now and allow King Arthur to take over." Logan nodded and walked back up the stairs as the crowd cheered. He stopped to hug Roman, "You'll do incredible work, Roman." Roman smiled and nodded.
Arthur walked over from where he was standing. The crowd cheered for him, and the king held his hand up to silence them. "Thank you all for the support over the years." He spoke loudly, he wasn't using a microphone, there was no need. it The crowd had respect for him, they wouldn't dare talk over him. "Today, I am a proud man. A proud man who gets to pass on his crown to someone who deserves it greatly." Roman smiled at his father. "I must admit, I've been hard on Roman lately. I've pressuring him to find someone to be wed to before coronation. But I shouldn't have pressured him, I realized that love isn't something you can force. And Roman found love on his own." The crowd gasped and murmurs spread. "I'm so proud to call Roman my son, and even prouder to say he's my king." Arthur bowed down to Roman who laughed and told him to rise.
Arthur looked over to his wife and motioned her over. He whispered something to her to which she nodded. "As my last moments as king, I'm changing one more thing." Roman looked at him confused. "My lovely wife, Queen Eleanor," Roman was confused. "And Virgil, Roman's...assistant." He motioned Virgil over, who came over, also confused. Virgil looked up at Roman who shrugged. "My wife, will take my crown from my head. Then she will pass it to Virgil, who will place it upon Roman's head." The crowd gasped.
It was normal for a king to have his queen to take the crown from his head and to pass it onto their son.
Arthur bent down on his knees, Eleanor took his crown off and held it in her hands for a moment before handing it to Virgil. Roman repeated what his father did and bent down. Virgil held the crown with careful hands, the crown was breathtaking. It was golden that had two rows of diamonds and rubies all over it. Virgil took a deep breath and placed the crown onto of Roman's head. The crowd erupted into cheers.
Logan walked back over with a microphone in his hand. "Roman," He began, he swore Roman in as king. Roman stood up and hugged his father tightly, "Make me proud, son." Roman nodded, "I will, father, I promise."
"Roman let me ask, do you want to announce right now Virgil? Eleanor is supposed to give her crown up right now." Arthur asked. "Let me ask, Virgil." Arthur nodded and stepped away as Roman motioned for Virgil to come over. "Sweetheart, do you want me to announce as my queen right now?" Roman asked teasingly, Virgil rolled his eyes. "Your queen," Virgil mocked before smiling, "Yeah, announce me as your queen or whatever." Roman smiled brightly and went to kiss Virgil but stopped himself. "We need to act fast cause I really wanna kiss you." Virgil blushed and rolled his eyes.
Roman nodded at his father and stood in front of the crowd. He raised his hand and the crowd went silent. "Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone else too. As my first act as king, I want to make announcement and wish for your support." He turned to Virgil and motioned him over. "Your new king is gay." He said simply, the crowd gasped loudly and whispers arose. "I know it's something you've never had before. However, I hope you still support me as I promise I will still rule as I should." Roman took Virgil's hand.
"This is Virgil," Roman smiled down at him lovingly, "And he is the love of my life." Virgil smiled as his heart welled up. There was awes in crowd. "He is my queen," Roman laughed as some did in the crowd. Virgil hit his arm slightly, "I know this is new, and this is different. But I wish for your support. I can promise you Virgil is simply wonderful."
Eleanor walked over to them, "If it helps with your unease. I am proud to pass my crown onto Virgil. He will wear it better than me." Virgil smiled at her as she hugged him. She took the crown off her head and held it in her hands. She handed it to Roman and stepped away. It was tradition for the king to crown his queen.
Much like Roman's crown, Virgil's new crown is golden with diamonds and rubies all over it.
Virgil smiled at Roman. "Bend down, love," Roman said sweetly, Virgil did as he was told and bent down. Roman gently placed the crown upon his head and the crowd cheered loudly. Virgil stood up and Roman grabbed him quickly. He dipped him and kissed him deeply, "Holy shit, that took too long." Virgil rolled his eyes and kissed Roman again as Roman brought him back to his feet. The crowd cheered for them loudly causing the new royal couple to smile.
"I think they like you," Roman laughed, "I hope so," Virgil answered back. Roman smiled at him and lead him back up ten stairs as Arthur moved to talk to the crowd again. Remus hugged them both tightly, "Welcome to the family, Virgil!" Virgil laughed and thanked him.
________
Back in Roman's room, they were laying down in the bed. "Does this mean we're married?" Virgil was laying on his side with Roman behind, holding him close. He was looking at the crowns that sat in the table. Roman chuckled some, "Technically? I guess so." Roman answered. Virgil nodded slightly and sighed some, Roman rolled him over. "What's wrong?" Roman asked him gently. Virgil shrugged looking down at his hands. Roman ohhed softly, "Do you want me to get you a ring, baby?" Virgil looked up at him, "You don't have to," Roman smiled, "I'll get you one." Virgil smiled some and nodded, "We'll go soon, I promise."Virgil rolled back over with a loopy smile, Roman pressed a gently kiss onto Virgil's neck. And they soon fell asleep as their first night as rulers.
