"You keep a photo of us in your wallet?"
I stepped into the bustling paddock, feeling the scent of gasoline mingled with the distant aroma of freshly cut grass. The air buzzed with excitement, anticipation radiating from every corner. My heart quickened its pace, matching the rhythm of the lively atmosphere. Today wasn't just any day at the racetrack; it was a day filled with the promise of love and adventure.
I scanned the paddock, my eyes searching for a familiar face amidst the sea of people. And then, there he was – Lando, Oscar's teammate, flashing a bright grin that could rival the sun. With his sandy blond hair tousled by the wind and his eyes sparkling with mischief, he was the epitome of charm.
"Hey there!" Lando called out, his voice carrying over the cacophony of the racetrack. He approached me with easy strides, his presence filling the space around us with warmth. "Oscar's in McLaren's motorhome grabbing some lunch. How have you been?"
A smile tugged at the corners of my lips as I returned his greeting. "Hey, Lando! I've been good, thanks. Just trying to survive my last year of law school," I replied, my voice laced with a hint of exhaustion and excitement. "And how about you? How's the track treating you?"
Lando chuckled, a sound that echoed like music in my ears. "Ah, you know how it is – the thrill of the race, the adrenaline pumping through your veins. It's all part of the job," he said with a grin, his eyes gleaming with passion. "But enough about me. It's been ages since we caught up. How's everything with you and Oscar?"
A soft blush warmed my cheeks at the mention of Oscar's name, the memories of our time together flooding my mind like a tidal wave. "Things have been wonderful, actually," I admitted, a fond smile playing on my lips. "He's been busy with training, but we make it work. I just love being here, cheering him on from the sidelines."
Lando nodded understandingly, his gaze softening with empathy. "I'm glad to hear that. Oscar's a lucky guy to have you by his side," he remarked sincerely, his words sending a flutter of butterflies dancing in my stomach. "But hey, I won't keep you any longer. Go find your man and give him all the support he needs. I'll catch up with you later, okay?"
With a grateful nod, I bid Lando farewell and set off in search of Oscar, my heart pounding with anticipation. As I weaved through the bustling crowds, my eyes scanned the horizon, searching for a familiar figure amidst the chaos of the racetrack.
I finally reached McLaren's motorhome, the familiar papaya exterior standing out among the array of trailers and tents. With a quick breath to steady my nerves, I pushed open the door and stepped inside, greeted by the comforting scent of home-cooked food and the sound of laughter.
There he was, sitting at the small dining table, a plate of food in front of him and a smile on his lips that could rival the sun. Oscar looked up as I entered, his eyes lighting up with joy as he saw me. Without a moment's hesitation, he rose from his seat and crossed the room in quick strides, closing the distance between us in the blink of an eye.
"Babe!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with warmth and love. And then, before I could even react, he swept me off my feet and into his arms, spinning me around in a dizzying whirlwind of joy and laughter. My heart soared as I wrapped my arms around his neck, holding on tight as he spun me around like we were the only two people in the world.
When he finally set me down, I couldn't help but laugh, the sheer happiness bubbling up inside me like a fountain of joy. "Oscar, you're going to make me dizzy!" I teased, my cheeks flushed with warmth as I gazed up at him with adoration.
He chuckled, a sound that washed over me like a wave of comfort and contentment. "Sorry about that, love," he said, his voice soft and affectionate as he brushed a stray strand of hair from my face. "I just couldn't help myself. I've missed you so much."
The words sent a flutter of butterflies dancing in my stomach, my heart swelling with love and affection for this wonderful man standing before me. "I've missed you too, Oscar," I confessed, my voice barely above a whisper as I reached out to cup his cheek in my hand. "So, what's the plan for today?"
Oscar grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement as he gestured for me to join him at the table. "Well, we've got practice laps this afternoon, followed by qualifying sessions later in the evening," he explained, his words punctuated by bites of food as he continued to eat. "But right now, all I want to do is enjoy this moment with you."
I couldn't help but smile at his words, the warmth of his love enveloping me like a soft blanket on a chilly night. With a happy sigh, I settled into his lap, wrapping my arms around his waist as he continued to eat, his warmth seeping into my bones like sunshine on a summer day.
While Oscar was finishing his lunch, I couldn't help but notice his wallet sitting on the table, its edges slightly worn from years of use. An inexplicable curiosity tugged at my heartstrings, urging me to reach out and open it. With a hesitant hand, I picked it up, flipping it open to reveal its contents.
And there it was, nestled amongst a few crumpled receipts and a handful of bills – a small, weathered photograph of the two of us, taken on a sunny day at the beach. In the picture, we were laughing, our faces illuminated by the warmth of the sun, our arms wrapped around each other in a tight embrace. It was a moment frozen in time, a reminder of the love and happiness we shared.
My heart skipped a beat as I gazed down at the photo, a rush of warmth flooding my chest like a tidal wave. "Oscar," I whispered, my voice barely above a breath as I looked up at him with tears glistening in my eyes. "You keep a photo of us in your wallet?"
Oscar's expression softened, his eyes shimmering with emotion as he reached out to gently brush a tear from my cheek. "Yeah," he admitted, his voice hoarse with emotion. "I've had it in there since the day we took it. It's... it's a reminder of how much you mean to me."
Tears welled up in my eyes as his words washed over me like a gentle wave of love and affection. "Oh, Oscar," I murmured, my voice trembling with emotion as I reached out to take his hand in mine. "I had no idea..."
He smiled, a soft, tender expression lighting up his face like the first rays of dawn. "I don't say it enough," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper as he gazed into my eyes with an intensity that took my breath away. "But I love you. More than anything in this world."
The words hung in the air between us, shimmering like a beacon of hope in the darkness. And in that moment, surrounded by the warmth of his love and the promise of a future together, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, as long as I had Oscar by my side, everything would be alright.
With tears streaming down my cheeks, I leaned forward and pressed my lips to his, pouring all the love and gratitude I felt into the tender embrace. And as we kissed, the world around us faded away, leaving nothing but the two of us and the promise of a love that would last a lifetime.
