"Let's get you out of those wet clothes" - Requested.

The pulsating bass of the music reverberated through my chest as I swayed amidst a throng of bodies in Max Verstappen's living room. This house party was lit, to say the least. Max, my longtime friend and object of my affections, had gone all out. The room was a kaleidoscope of colorful lights, laughter, and the smell of booze mingling with sweat.

My friends were in full party mode, passing around drinks like it was a relay race. I took a swig from the red plastic cup in my hand, relishing the burn of vodka as it slid down my throat. Liquid courage, they called it. Tonight, I needed all the courage I could get.

"You should tell him tonight," Sasha slurred, her words slightly slurred from the alcohol. She leaned heavily against the wall, her eyes bright with mischief.

I rolled my eyes, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, right. Like I'm gonna spill my guts to Max Verstappen at his own party."

"But he's single now! This is your chance!" Mia chimed in, her words overlapping with Sasha's.

I shook my head, a nervous laugh bubbling up. "I can't just... I don't know, spring it on him like that. What if he doesn't feel the same? It'll ruin everything."

"Girl, you'll never know unless you try," Sasha insisted, waving her hand in a dramatic flourish. "And tonight's the perfect night. We're all here to support you!"

I glanced around at my friends, their faces fuzzy with alcohol-induced haze but brimming with encouragement. Maybe they were right. Maybe tonight was the night to finally tell Max how I felt.

But then again, maybe it was just the booze talking.

"I don't know, guys," I said, my voice wavering. "I think I'm just gonna... drink to not think."

And with that, I raised my cup to my lips and downed the rest of its contents in one gulp. The liquid burned like fire, chasing away my doubts and insecurities, if only for a moment.

My friends cheered, egging me on as they poured more drinks into my cup. The night blurred into a whirlwind of laughter and dancing, fueled by alcohol and the pounding rhythm of the music. Max drifted in and out of my line of sight, his smile infectious and his laughter like music to my ears. But every time I worked up the nerve to approach him, my courage faltered. What if he didn't feel the same? What if I made a fool of myself in front of everyone? So I drank. And I danced. And I laughed until my sides ached and my vision swam.

The cool night air hit my flushed cheeks as Sasha, Mia, and I stumbled out onto the pool deck. The stars twinkled overhead, casting a soft glow over the water below. Tipsy and giddy, we began to circle the pool, laughing and joking as we went.

But then, in a moment of drunken clumsiness, Sasha and Mia collided with each other, sending them careening into me. Before I knew it, I was teetering on the edge of the pool, arms windmilling wildly as I tried to regain my balance.

And then, with a splash, I was falling.

The shock of the cold water stole my breath away as I sank beneath the surface, panic clawing at my chest. I thrashed wildly, limbs flailing as I struggled to find solid ground.

But it was no use. I couldn't swim.

My heart pounded in my ears as darkness threatened to swallow me whole. I was drowning, drowning in a sea of alcohol and regret.

And then, suddenly, there were hands gripping my shoulders, pulling me upward with surprising strength. Gasping for air, I broke the surface, sputtering and coughing as I clung to my rescuer.

"Are you okay?!" Max's voice was urgent, his eyes wide with concern as he held me close.

I nodded, still shaking from the adrenaline coursing through my veins. "Y-yeah, I think so."

Max's expression softened as he brushed a wet strand of hair from my face. "You scared the hell out of me, you know that?"

I managed a weak laugh, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. "Sorry about that."

He shook his head, his grip on me never faltering. "Don't apologize. Sasha and Mia should be the ones saying sorry."

I glanced over at my friends, who stood huddled together on the pool deck, their faces pale with guilt. They hadn't meant to push me in, I knew that. But still, the fear lingered, raw and potent.

Max must have sensed my unease because he tightened his hold on me, pulling me closer until our bodies were pressed together.

"It's okay," he murmured, his voice low and soothing. "I've got you."

And in that moment, with Max's arms wrapped around me and the stars twinkling overhead, I felt safe. Safe enough to let go of my fears, if only for a little while.

But as Sasha and Mia stumbled over to us, their apologies tumbling out in a flurry of drunken slurs, I couldn't help but feel a pang of anger. They hadn't meant to push me in, I knew that. But still, they'd endangered me, all for the sake of a stupid prank.

Max must have sensed my frustration because he shot them a glare that could have melted steel. "You two need to learn when to draw the line. This could have ended badly."

Sasha and Mia hung their heads, shame written all over their faces. "We're sorry," they mumbled, their voices small.

Max sighed, running a hand through his damp hair. "Just... be more careful next time, okay? I don't want to see anyone else getting hurt tonight."

Max led me through the crowded house and up the stairs, his hand warm and reassuring in mine. My clothes clung to my skin, heavy and sodden with pool water, as we made our way to his room. I couldn't help but shiver, the cold seeping into my bones as we stepped into the warmth of his bedroom.

"I'll find you something dry to wear," Max said, his voice gentle as he rummaged through his dresser. "I've never seen you drink so much before, you know."

I raised an eyebrow, teasing him as I leaned against the doorframe. "Oh, really? Been keeping an eye on me, have you?"

He chuckled, his cheeks flushing slightly as he turned to face me. "I was just worried, that's all."

I grinned, feeling a surge of affection for him. "Well, don't worry. Almost drowning to death woke me up right away. But I feel amazing, I get your thing for adrenaline now..."

Max shook his head, a fond smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "You're something else, you know that?"

I shrugged, trying to play it cool despite the butterflies fluttering in my stomach. "Eh, what can I say? I'm full of surprises."

He chuckled again, his eyes sparkling with amusement as he handed me a pile of clothes. "Here, these should fit you. Let's get you out of those wet clothes."

I grinned mischievously, extending my arms expectantly. "Well, don't just stand there, help a girl out."

Max's cheeks flushed an even deeper shade of red as he took a step back, his hands raised in mock surrender. "I don't think that's a good idea. You're too drunk for that. I would do it, under sober consent."

I pouted playfully, giving him my best puppy-dog eyes. "Aw, come on, Max. Where's your sense of adventure? I'm consenting!" I slurred out.

But he shook his head, his expression firm. "Nope, not gonna happen. You can manage on your own."

With a theatrical sigh, I began to peel off my wet clothes, tossing them haphazardly onto the floor. Max averted his gaze, pretending to be engrossed in something on his dresser, but I could see the hint of a smirk playing at the corners of his lips.

"Fine, be that way," I muttered, struggling to wriggle out of my jeans. "But just you wait, Max Verstappen. One of these days, I'll catch you off guard and sober."

He laughed, a warm, genuine sound that sent a flutter through my chest. "I look forward to it."
